Gulestan Rustom Billimoria was an Indian philanthropist, social worker, writer and painter, best known for her services for the special needs children of Mumbai. [1]
Born Gulestan J. Bhadurjee, Billimoria did her schooling at Girton High School and college studies at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai during which period she was a fellow of the University of Mumbai for two terms and a member of the university senate. [1]
After her marriage to Rustomji Bomanji Billimoria, the founder of Bel-Air Hospital of Indian Red Cross Society and a Padma Bhushan recipient, she took over the management of the functions of the hospital. [2] Later, she helped found the Savera Special School Gulestan And Billimoria School, Mumbai of the Maharashtra State Women's Council, an institution for the mentally and physically handicapped children. She served as the Sheriff of Mumbai in 1957 [5] and was the lady superintendent of the Alexandra Girls' English Institution, Mumbai from 1922 to 1937. [6]
Billimoria was a known painter and one of her paintings has been exhibited at the Prince of Wales Museum, Mumbai (present-day Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. [1] She also wrote a number of articles on special needs children. [1]
The Government of India awarded her the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 1972. [7]

Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) is a public deemed university in Mumbai, India. It is focused on training and research in the fields of chemical engineering, chemical technology, and pharmaceutical sciences. Established in 1933, the institute was granted deemed university status in 2008, making it the only state-funded deemed university in India. Roshan Kumari Fakir Mohammad is an Indian classical dancer, actor and choreographer, considered by many as one of the foremost exponents of the Indian classical dance form of Kathak. She follows the Jaipur Gharana and is the founder of Nritya Kala Kendra, Mumbai, an academy promoting Kathak. A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1975, she received the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri from the Government of India in 1984.
Chitra Jayant Naik (1918–2010) was an Indian educationist, writer, social worker, the chairperson of the Indian Institute of Education and the expert member of the Planning Commission of India. She was the chairperson of the Non-formal Education Committee set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and was a member of the National Literacy Mission. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1986.

Rustomji Bomanji Billimoria was an Indian physician, social worker, and the founder of Bel-Air Hospital, a tuberculosis sanatorium at Panchgani, a hill station in Maharashtra. Born on 13 May 1882 in Mumbai to Bomanji Jamshedji Billimoria as the youngest of his four children, Billimoria took up medicine as his profession and, in 1912, established a sanatorium for treating tuberculosis at Dalkeith in Panchgani. The facility has grown over the years to become a 250-bedded healthcare centre and is managed by Indian Red Cross Society. He was married to Gulestan Rustom Billimoria, a known social worker and a Padma Bhushan recipient. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1961, for his contributions to medicine.
Mithan Jamshed Lam (1898–1981) was an Indian lawyer, social activist and the Sheriff of Mumbai. She was the first Indian woman barrister and the first Indian woman lawyer at the Bombay High Court. She was a member of the All India Women's Conference and served as its president in 1961–62. The Government of India awarded her the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1962, for her contributions to society.
