Gunman Taco Truck is a 2017 post-apocalyptic roguelike indie game created by Romero Games. The player assumes the role of a taco truck driver and salesman, escaping to Winnipeg, Canada, after an accidental nuclear strike, where they will be able to safely sell their tacos.
In Gunman Taco Truck, the player travels through various cities in the United States to get to their end destination of Winnipeg. The majority of the game is spent on the road, where the player can shoot enemies to acquire meat, money, or scrap metal. After completing a road section, they will go to a petrol station, where they can prepare and sell their tacos for money, and purchase fuel, ingredients for tacos, and repairs, armour, and better weapons for their truck. As the player travels through the game, they will find more enemies, whose meat can be used to make new taco recipes. Additionally, while at the petrol station, players may be given tasks for bonus money or scrap metal, such as delivering a package to a specific town.
In 2020, a scientist accidentally launches seven nuclear bombs across the United States, which cause the people and animals to mutate and grow feral. The player character, "the last Mexican in the U.S.", goes on a journey to Winnipeg, where there are no taco trucks, and they can open their business free of competition. [1]
Donovan Brathwaite-Romero created the concept in 2014. The game was developed over the next 3 years by Donovan and his parents, John Romero and Brenda Romero. [2] Donovan had no prior experience creating a video game, and had to be taught how to code from the ground up by John. In 2017, Donovan was 12 years old. [3]
The game was put through Steam Greenlight on January 13 2017, [4] and was accepted on January 28 2017, where it was released for Windows and Mac. On February 15, it was released for iOS devices. [5]
Writing for TechRaptor, Travis Williams said "Gunman Taco Truck is a competent action roguelike with some strategy and planning elements thrown in for good measure. Instead of a simple distraction, there is a robust game here that is going to provide quite a challenge, and you'll see a significant amount of gameplay before you reach the end, and it surprised me with just how much game hides just behind the vibrant, silly surface." [6] On Steam, over 80% of users gave the game a positive review. [7]
The mobile version was given the 2017 Best Game Audio Award by the Irish Game Makers Association, and upon release, it entered the featured section of the App Store in many countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. [8]
An April 2020 update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive includes a music kit from Gunman Taco Truck. [9]

The game's title and plot are inspired by the Biblical story of the Binding of Isaac. In the game, Isaac's mother receives a message from God demanding the life of her son as proof of her faith, and Isaac, fearing for his life, flees into the monster-filled basement of their home where he must fight to survive. Players control Isaac or one of the 6 other unlockable characters through a procedurally generated dungeon in a roguelike manner, fashioned after those of The Legend of Zelda, defeating monsters in real-time combat while collecting items and power-ups to defeat bosses and eventually Isaac's mother.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a roguelike indie game designed by Edmund McMillen and developed and published by Nicalis. Rebirth was released for Linux, Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in November 2014, for Xbox One, New Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in July 2015, for iOS in January 2017 and for Nintendo Switch in March 2017. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions were released in November 2021.

Crying Suns is a 2019 roguelike strategy video game developed by Montpellier-based developer Alt Shift and published by Humble Bundle. The protagonist, space admiral Ellys Idaho, awakes in a cloning facility decades after the interstellar empire he fought for has collapsed, and travels the empire's galaxy in a battleship in search of answers why. The game is split into six chapters, with three sectors each; Idaho and his crew travel through each sector and its star systems to reach the sector exits while staying ahead of a pursuing threat. During the course of their travels, players battle other battleships in pausable real-time.
Synthetik: Legion Rising is a top-down shooter video game with roguelike elements set in an alternate 1980s where humanity is threatened by malicious artificial intelligence. The game was created with Game Maker and was developed by independent studio Flow Fire Games, based in Berlin.
A Soulslike is a subgenre of action role-playing games known for high difficulty level and emphasis on environmental storytelling, typically in a dark fantasy setting. It had its origin in Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls trilogy by FromSoftware, the themes and mechanics of which directly inspired several other games. The "Soulslike" name has been adopted by a number of critics and developers. However, there have also been questions whether it is a true genre or a collection of shared mechanics. A subset of these games, named Soulsborne, refer to most of the Soulslike games developed by FromSoftware.
