Guy Christopher Mutton (born 17 October 1976), also known as Mutto, is an Australian singer, a Top 12 contestant in the fourth season of Australian Idol and ex-lead singer of the Gold Coast–based rock band, Soulframe.

Education and early career

Mutton graduated with a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Griffith University and worked in various areas of youth related employment. In 2001, he completed a Bachelor of Education (Graduate Entry) at QUT in Brisbane, majoring in Physical Education.

Soulframe

Mutton put his career in education on hold when his band Soulframe began gaining popularity, and the band members decided to pursue music in a full-time capacity. With experience on drums and piano, Mutton was reluctant to audition as a vocalist, however, subsequent to his stepping into the role of lead vocals, Soulframe won several Australian music awards and released two albums, Sojourn and Escaping Entropy. Songs from their 2005 album, Escaping Entropy received national recognition, including various radio station airplay of their single 'Beautiful', collecting a win and three further nominations in categories at the 2004 Annual MusicOz Awards, [1] two of the top 10 spots in their category for the 2005 Australian Songwriters Association Awards, and a win in their category for the NZ-based 2005 Pacific Songwriting Competition for their song 'Thread'. Australian Idol

Mutton sang U2's "All I Want Is You" at the Brisbane auditions of Australian Idol 4 and made the top 24 in Sydney. During the first semi final round, Mutton sang "Meant to Live" by Switchfoot but did not accrue enough votes to advance. His nickname Mutto applied to SMS votes, in addition to his given name 'Guy'. On 31 August, he was selected into the wildcard show for a second chance to earn a place in the Top 12. Mutton performed Eskimo Joe's "Black Fingernails, Red Wine" which resulted in mixed responses from the judges. However, on 4 September, the judges advanced him into the Top 12 as the second of four successful wildcard contestants. Mutton was the fourth performer voted out of the Australian Idol Top 12 on 2 October.

As part of the Idol franchise, Australian Idol originated from the reality program Pop Idol, which was created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller. After Australian Idol also received good ratings in New Zealand, TVNZ decided to order the first season of NZ Idol, which was broadcast on TV2. After the third season in 2006, TVNZ made a decision not to fund or broadcast a fourth season, thus placing New Zealand Idol on indefinite hiatus, with no plans to run a fourth season.

The second season of Swedish Idol premiered in August 2005 and continued until its grand finale on 2 December, when 17-year-old Agnes Carlsson from Vänersborg was crowned winner. The series was the first to crown a female Idol and is to date the sole season to be won by either a public or judges' wildcard contestant. Of the over 120 Idol winners worldwide, Carlsson is one of only three who gained a place in the finals as a judges' wildcard. Stuart Leslie MacLeod is the guitarist and backup singer of the Australian band, Eskimo Joe. He lives in Fremantle, Western Australia. When he was seven he lived next door to Kavyen Temperley and they have been best friends for years. MacLeod and Temperley attended John Curtin Senior High School together. MacLeod then went on to study Engineering and Commerce at the University of Western Australia. In 1997 MacLeod started jamming with Temperley, who was in a band, Freud's Pillow. MacLeod co-wrote several Freud's Pillow's songs. The pair decided to form a new band and auditioned a few drummers before settling on Joel Quartermain, who was a guitarist in Freud's Pillow, but had mentioned he also played drums. MacLeod and Temperley decided Quartermain was more musical than any other drummer they had auditioned. They then entered the band, Eskimo Joe, into the Australian National Campus Band Competition. The first heat in August 1997 was Eskimo Joe's first performance, they went on to win the state final and then the national competition, the reward being a chance to play at the Livid Festival together with a recording session in Sydney.

The third season of Australian Idol debuted on 26 July 2005. The first of three semi-finals was held on 16 August 2005 with three of the Top 12 contenders announced the following night on 17 August 2005. 2Day FM radio host Kyle Sandilands replaced former judge Ian Dickson.

The first season of Australian Idol was produced by Fremantle Media subsidiary Grundy Television in association with UK company 19TV, and was broadcast on Network Ten for 19 weeks in the latter half of 2003. The judges were Mark Holden, Marcia Hines and Ian "Dicko" Dickson.

The second season of Australian Idol debuted on 13 July 2004. Over 50,000 people throughout Australia auditioned.

The sixth season of Australian Idol premiered on Sunday, 24 August 2008, on Network Ten. The season finale aired live on Sunday, 23 November 2008. The winner was Wes Carr with Luke Dickens as runner-up.

The seventh season of Australian Idol began on 9 August 2009, to determine who would succeed season 6 winner, Wes Carr. Beginning amid controversy, judge Kyle Sandilands was replaced by Sony Music record executive, Jay Dee Springbett. It was the only season where all four final contestants were eighteen years old or younger. Stan Walker was declared the winner on 22 November 2009.
