Hakimuddin Shabbir Habibulla (born 25 September 1979) is an Indian former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. [1] He represented India at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Career

Habibulla competed only in the men's 200 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. [2] He received a Universality place from FINA in an entry time of 1:56.11. [3] He challenged four other swimmers in heat one, including Uzbekistan's two-time Olympian Oleg Tsvetkovskiy. Coming from third at the first turn, Habibulla finished the race to a fourth seed in a time of 1:58.35, finishing behind the leader Tsvetskovskiy by 3.42 seconds. [4] Habibulla failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed 50th overall in the prelims. [5] [6]

Habibulla was co-founder of GoSports India Pvt. Ltd., a sports management company based in Bangalore, which works towards development of young talent in Olympic sports. He was also the Founder Trustee of the GoSports Foundation. [7] [8] [9]

Habibulla is currently the founder and principal consultant for sports performance at Winning Matters Consulting Pvt. Ltd., a sports consulting firm. [10] [11]

Virdhawal Vikram Khade is an Indian swimmer. He competed in the men's 50, 100, and 200 meters Freestyle swimming events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, setting an Indian national record in 100 meters Freestyle. He failed to qualify for the semifinals in his events despite winning his qualification heat. Khade won a bronze medal in the 50 meters butterfly event at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou; it was India's first Asian Games medal in swimming in 24 years. He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2011 by the Government of India.

Rehan Jahangir Poncha is an Indian former swimmer, Olympian, Arjuna Award winner and a six-time national champion, who specialized in backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. He is also the recipient of the Eklavya Award from the Karnataka Olympic Association. He is a 6-time Indian swimming champion, and a 6-time record holder in the butterfly. Poncha also set two of his records in the freestyle and medley relays at the 2009 Asian Swimming Championships in Foshan, China, along with his teammates Sandeep Sejwal, Virdhawal Khade, and Aaron D'Souza.

Elina Partõka is an Estonian former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She is a three-time Olympian, and a daughter of Valentin Partyka, who competed in both 200 and 400 m individual medley at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, representing the Soviet Union.

Olena Pavlivna Lapunova is a Ukrainian former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and individual medley events. She is a three-time Olympian, an eighth-place finalist at the European Championships (1997), and a former Ukrainian record holder in the 200 m freestyle and individual medley.

Pilin Tachakittiranan is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian and a multiple-time age-group record holder in all freestyle distances. Regarded as Thailand's top female swimmer, she has won a total of five gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games.

Spyridon "Spiros" Bitsakis is a Greek former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a 2003 All-American swimmer in the 100 m freestyle, while studying in the United States. He is one of two Greek swimmers, alongside Apostolos Tsagkarakis, who trained for the Alabama Crimson Tide, under head coach Don Gambril, at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Rostyslav Albertovych Svanidze was a Ukrainian swimmer of Georgian descent, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. He was a two-time Olympian, and a top 16 finalist in the 100 m freestyle at his Olympic debut in Atlanta (1996). As a member of Ukraine's senior national team, Svanidze had won a total of 37 swimming titles in middle-distance freestyle, and in freestyle relays. Although he never received a single medal in any international tournament, Svanidze was regarded as one of Ukraine's top swimmers in the post-independence era since the break-up of the Soviet Union. Before his untimely death in 2002, he worked as a senior lecturer under the faculty of physical education in Zaporizhia State Medical University.

Woo Chul is a retired South Korean swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a double medalist at the Asian Games.

Hani Eltair is an Egyptian former swimmer, African and Arabian swimming champion, who specialised in long-distance freestyle as well as butterfly events. Eltair competed in the men's 400 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He eclipsed a FINA B-standard entry time of 4:04.47 from the Pan Arab Games in Amman, Jordan. He challenged five other swimmers in heat one, including Singapore's two-time Olympian Sng Ju Wei. Eltair held the Egyptian and African under 13 200m butterfly record for a period of 26 years, a record that was considered the most enduring in the history of Egyptian swimming. He won the title of best African swimmer in 1994 in Cairo and in 1996 in Mauritius after winning 14 medals. During his sports career he won more than 800 gold medals, held 38 records, and represented Egypt in more than 60 International swimming events. Eltair now works as an orthopaedic consultant in Germany, specialising in shoulder and knee surgeries.

Felix Christiadi Sutanto is a retired Indonesian swimmer, who specialized in individual medley events. He represented Indonesia, along with his twin brother Albert, at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and later received a total of sixteen All-American titles at the NAIA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, while studying in the United States. Because of his tremendous career in college swimming, Sutanto was named the 2002 and 2003 Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Year by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Oleg Nikolayevich Tsvetkovskiy is an Uzbek former swimmer, who specialized in sprint and middle-distance freestyle events. He represented Uzbekistan in two editions of the Olympic Games, since the nation's breakup from the Soviet Union.

Sebastien Paddington is a Trinidad and Tobago former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. He represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and later became the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT). Paddington is also a graduate with a bachelor's degree in geography at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Santiago Deu Sandoval is an Andorran former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. Deu competed only in the men's 200 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He received a Universality place from FINA in an entry time of 1:59.39. He challenged four other swimmers in heat one, including Uzbekistan's two-time Olympian Oleg Tsvetkovskiy. Deu rounded out the field to last place in a personal best of 1:59.31, finishing behind the leader Tsvetskovskiy by 4.38 seconds. Deu failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed fifty-first overall in the prelims.

Chantal Zita Gibney is an Irish former competitive swimmer who specialised in sprint and middle-distance freestyle events. Gibney became a semi-finalist in the 200-metre freestyle at the European Championships, and later represented Ireland, as a 19-year-old, at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She also holds numerous Irish records, long or short course, in a middle-distance freestyle double, and fifteen All-American honours, while attending the University of Florida.

Roh Joo-hee is a South Korean former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle and breaststroke events. As a teenager, she represented South Korea in two editions of the Olympic Games, and also held numerous career bests and national records in both 200 and 400 m freestyle.

Pamela Vásquez is a Honduran former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. Vasquez competed only in the women's 200 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She received a ticket from FINA, under a Universality program, in an entry time of 2:12.87. She participated in heat one against two other swimmers Nisha Millet of India and Marella Mamoun of Syrian Arab Republic. She raced to the second seed in a time of 2:15.83, trailing behind leader Millet by almost seven seconds. Vasquez failed to advance into the semifinals, as she placed thirty-eighth overall in the prelims.

Marella Mamoun is a Syrian former swimmer, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. Mamoun competed only in the women's 200 m freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She received a ticket from FINA, under a Universality program, in an entry time of 2:16.17. She participated in heat one against two other swimmers Nisha Millet of India and Pamela Vásquez of Honduras. She rounded out a small field of swimmers to last place in a time of 2:18.78, trailing behind leader Millet by almost ten seconds. Mamoun failed to advance into the semifinals, as she placed thirty-ninth overall in the prelims.

Valiarian Biezhanovich Khuroshvili is a Belarusian former swimmer of Georgian heritage, who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events.

Katie Brambley is a Canadian former swimmer who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events. She captured two bronze medals from the 1995 Pan American Games, and later represented Canada at the 2000 Summer Olympics. During her sporting career, Brambley also trained for the Pacific Dolphins Swim Club, under head coach Tom Johnson, while taking up a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of British Columbia.
