The Handball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnian : Rukometni savez Bosne i Hercegovine; RS BiH) is the national governing body for handball in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is responsible for the development, organization, and supervision of national handball competitions, player registration, and management of all national teams, as well as representing the country in international handball organizations.

History and development

The federation was founded in 1948 as part of the former Yugoslav Handball Federation. Official legal registration in Bosnia and Herzegovina was completed on 22 June 2017, when RS BiH was formally registered in accordance with the Law on Associations and Foundations and the Law on Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The founding members were the Handball Federation of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (including cantonal federations and the Handball Federation of Herceg-Bosna) and the Handball Federation of Republika Srpska.

The Statute of RS BiH was adopted at the Founding Assembly on 10 June 2017, in accordance with Article 10 of the Law on Associations and Foundations and Article 22(3) of the Law on Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Statute explicitly states that the Federation is neutral in political and religious matters and that any form of discrimination is prohibited.

The Federation is a member of the European Handball Federation (EHF), the International Handball Federation (IHF), and the Mediterranean Handball Confederation. Clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina regularly participate in European competitions.

The main governing bodies of the Federation are the Assembly, Executive Board, Supervisory Board, and the Secretary General.

The headquarters of the Handball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in Vogošća, at: Jošanička 55, WOG Center, 4th floor, 71320 Vogošća, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Results and International Achievements

Men's Senior National Team

The men’s national team made its first appearance at the World Championship in 2015. The men's team also made its debut at the EHF European Men's Handball Championship in 2020 and later participated in the 2022 and 2024 editions.

Youth Teams

The U-18 men's national team achieved remarkable success by winning the gold medal at the Men’s 18 EHF Championship in Slovakia in 2024, after defeating Latvia 38–26 in the final.

Contribution and Role in Handball

Through its organizational work, the RS BiH has contributed to establishing a unified competition system for both men and women in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as enabling the international participation of national teams. Clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina regularly compete in competitions organized under the auspices of the EHF and the IHF.

The Federation also plays an important role in youth handball development, coach education, referee training, sports promotion, and maintaining standards that align with the highest international norms.
