The handball events at the 2006 Asian Games were held in Doha, Qatar between 3 December and 14 December 2006. It was the seventh time handball was included at the Asian Games. All matches were held in the Al-Gharafa Indoor Hall.

Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins.

It has 44 member countries, mostly located on the Asian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russian Federation and Turkey – which are instead members of European Handball Federation (EHF). Three other states located along the western fringe of Asia – Cyprus, Armenia and Israel – are also EHF members. Hong Kong China and Macau, although not independent countries, are also members of the AHF.

Iran participated in the 2006 Asian Games held in the city of Doha. This country is ranked 6th with 11 gold medals in this edition of the Asiad.

The Handball events at the 2002 Asian Games were held in South Korea between 30 September and 13 October 2002. The competition took place at the Changwon Gymnasium.

South Korea womens national handball team

The South Korea women's national handball team is the national team of South Korea. Since 1984 the Korean team has not only participated constantly in Olympic Games but also ranked among the top four nations every time until 2012. Korea grabbed the gold medal in 1988 and 1992, won the silver medal in 1984, 1996, 2004 and took bronze medal in 2008. They have earned two World Championship medals so far: In 1995, they also won the World Championship title in Austria/Hungary 1995 World Women's Handball Championship, they came off third to secure the bronze medal at the Croatia in 2003 World Women's Handball Championship. It is a twelve time Asian Champion, the tournament has been won by any other nation only twice.

The women's handball tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics is being held from August 9 to August 23, at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium and National Indoor Stadium in Beijing. Twelve nations are represented in the women's tournament.

The Handball events at the 1998 Asian Games were held in Bangkok, Thailand between December 7 and December 16, 1998. South Korea dominated the competition by winning both gold medals.

The 3rd West Asian Games were to be held from 7 to 17 April 2003 in Damascus, Syria. However, they were postponed and then cancelled. On 4 April 2002 the West Asian Games Federation decided that the Games would be held every four years, instead of two, namely one year before the Asian Games.

Handball at the 2010 Asian Games was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China from November 13 to 26, 2010. In this tournament, 11 teams played in the men's competition, and 9 teams participated in the women's competition.

Handball Federation of India was founded by Jagat Singh Lohan from Rohtak (Haryana), who was an alumnus of YMCA College of Physical Education of Madras. Lohan was founder of handball, netball and throwball games in India. His efforts during Munich Olympics helped in establishing HFI. The member states were Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Vidharbha and Jammu and Kashmir. He was also elected as first secretary general of Handball Federation of India.

Handball has been a South Asian Games event since 2010 for men's and since 2016 for women's.

The Japan Handball Association (JHA) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Japan. JHA is affiliated to the Asian Handball Federation (AHF), Japanese Olympic Committee and International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1952.

Qatar Handball Association

The Qatar Handball Association (QHA) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Qatar. QHA is affiliated to the Asian Handball Federation (AHF), Qatar Olympic Committee and International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1978.

The Chinese Handball Association (CHA) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in the People's Republic of China. CHA is affiliated to the International Handball Federation and Asian Handball Federation. Founded in 1979, CHA is also affiliated to the Chinese Olympic Committee, East Asian Handball Federation. The Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Founded in 1983, BHF is affiliated to the International Handball Federation and Asian Handball Federation. BHF is also affiliated to the Bangladesh Olympic Association and South Asian Handball Federation. It is based in Dhaka.

Handball at the 2018 Asian Games was held at the POPKI Sports Hall, Jakarta, Indonesia, from 13 August to 31 August 2018. In this tournament, 13 teams participated in the men's competition while 10 teams participated in the women's competition.

The women's tournament of Handball at the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta, Indonesia was held between 14 and 30 August 2018. The matches were held at the POPKI Sports Hall.

2018 Asian Womens Handball Championship

The 2018 Asian Women's Handball Championship was the 17th edition of the Asian Women's Handball Championship, which took place from 30 November to 9 December 2018 in Kumamoto, Yamaga and Yatsushiro, Japan. The tournament was held under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation and acted as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Women's Handball Championship.

The Handball Association of Thailand (HAT) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball in Thailand. HAT is a member of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) and member of the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1998.
