Pathak was born on 5 August 1938 at Botad (now in Gujarat, India) to Monghiben and Ramchandra. [1] [2] His family was from Bholad village in Ahmedabad district. [3] He matriculated in 1956. He completed his B. Sc. from Gujarat University in 1961. [1] He worked as a teacher at Songadh near Bhavnagar in 1961–62. In 1963, he joined Department of Revenues, Government of Gujarat as an assistant. He was later promoted as the divisional officer and later retired as the deputy secretary. He has managed literary groups such as Mijlas and Brihaspatisabha for years. [1] [4] He has also served as a vice president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. [2] He is also painter, sketcher and singer. [1]

Works

Harikrishna Pathak has experimented with several genres of literature. His first work, a satire, Natakno Takhto was published in Chandani while his first poem was published in Kumar . [2] Sooraj Kadach Uge (1974) was his first poetry collection which had 82 poem including metrical poetry, sonnets, songs, ghazals and free verse. It has traditional as well as experimental poems. [1] [4] Halavi Hawane Pankhe (2005), Tapu and Jalna Padgha are his another poetry collections. [1] [2] Adva Pachisi (1984) has parody poetry on human nature delivered through fictional character Advo. It has shades of burlesque. [5] [1] [4]

Mor Banglo (1988) and Natubhaine To Jalsa Chhe (2008) are his story collections. Galine Nakethi (1993) is his collection of criticism. Nagar Vase Chhe (1978) has selected poems from Brihaspatisabha edited by him. [4] He has also edited Gujarat Kavita Chayan (1994, 1996) as well as co-edited Swatantryottar Gujarati Geet Sanchay, Gurjar Navalika Chayan, Gurjar Adhunik Vivechan and Manubhai Trivedi - Sarod (2008). [1] Aapni Yadi has poems of Kalapi selected by him. [2] Raina Phool (2004) is his travelogue. [1]

He has contributed to children's literature also. Koinu Kaik Khovay Chhe (1981) is a collection of children's poetry. Dostarini Vato (1993) is a collection of children's stories. Gulabi Arasni Laggi (1979) is a collection of teenage experiences initially serialized in Nutan Gujarat. Hallo-Fallo (2005) his also his work on children's literature. [1] [4]

Many of his poetry has been published in Gujarati textbook in Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board textbook like 'Chok ni vacche ugyo chabutaro'.

Awards

He has received Kumar Chandrak (1967), [4] Chandrashekhar Thakkur Prize (1973), Critics Award (1984), Jayant Pathak Poetry Prize (1993), Narmad Suvarna Chandrak (1993, for Jalna Padgha). He has been awarded by Gujarat Sahitya Akademi also. [1]

Personal life

He married Chandrika in 1961 at Bhavnagar and has six children. [2]

Labhshankar Thakar

Labhshankar Jadavji Thakar, also known by his pen names Lagharo and Vaidya Punarvasu, was a Gujarati poet, playwright and story writer from India. Educated in languages and Ayurveda, he taught at colleges before starting practice of Ayurveda. He had a modernist approach in literature and was heavily influenced by absurd theatre and the traditions of experimental literature. He chiefly wrote plays and poetry.

Harshad Trivedi

Harshad Trivedi is a Gujarati language poet, short story writer, critic and editor from Gujarat, India. He was an editor of Shabdasrishti, an organ of Gujarat Sahitya Akadami, from 1995 to 2015. Trivedi has served in different positions at several Gujarati literary institutions.

Radheshyam Sharma

Radheshyam Sharma is a Gujarati language poet, novelist, short story writer, critic and compiler from the state of Gujarat, India. He is known in Gujarati literature for his experimental novels Fero (1968) and Swapnatirtha (1979). Other significant works include Aansu Ane Chandaranu (1963), and Gujarati Navalkatha, a work of literary criticism on Gujarati novels. Sharma was awarded the Gujarati literary honours Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak, in 2004, and Dhanji Kanji Gandhi Suvarna Chandrak, in 1995.

Ramnarayan Vishwanath Pathak was a Gujarati poet and writer from India. Profoundly influenced by Gandhian thought, Pathak wrote criticism, poetry, drama, metrics and short stories. He edited and translated literary works. He was appointed as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in 1946. He was awarded the Gujarati literary prizes Narmad Suvarna Chandrak for Prachin Gujarati Chhando in 1949 and Sahitya Akademi Award for Bruhat Pingal in 1956.

Ratilal Mohanlal Borisagar is a Gujarati humourist, essayist and editor from Gujarat, India. Born and educated in Savarkundla, he received a PhD in 1989. After working for some years as a teacher, he joined the state school textbook board until his retirement in 1998. He started his writing career as a story writer, but eventually gained acclaim as a humourist. He published several humour collections and humour novels, including the acclaimed book Enjoygraphy. He edited several works of children's literature and humour literature. In 2019, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his essay collection, Mojma Revu Re.
