Hans "Hasse" Persson (20 January 1929 – 29 July 2001), often called HP, was a Swedish professional footballer who played as a forward. In his time, he was immensely popular in the football club Landskrona BoIS. [2]

Biography

Hasse "HP" Persson started his football career in his hometown Klippan before the age of 20, and in 1949 he took the step to Helsingborgs IF and Allsvenskan. There, he soon blossomed into his role as left inner and got his debut in the Sweden men's national team. His first game for Sweden was in September 1952 in Helsinki in an international match against Finland and he made a hat trick in an 8-1 triumph. The next international against Norway that same autumn he made the decisive 2-1 goal, and he also scored in his international game number three, against Italy. In this match, however, he injured his neck and had to leave the game in half time. The injury came to be fatal, and as a result of it he had to say no to test games with Italian side AC Milan.

Hasse Persson was something of a bohemian. Many are the stories of a willful and exuberant gentleman who often went his own ways. After a turbulent time, he left Helsingborgs IF. In 1955, HP wrote a contract with Helsingborgs IF arch rivals, Landskrona BoIS. In Landskrona, he soon became a big star in the city and it is said that he alone brought big crowds to Landskrona IP. There are many citizens in Landskrona who believes that the club never had a better player than Persson. Many of those who experienced the 1950s and 1960s have their special Hasse Persson-memories. This is almost always about goals from impossible distances, rocket shots, phenomenal assists or various other technical showpieces. [2]

Even during the years in Landskrona professional clubs were interested in contracting him, for example Italian side Udinese Calcio. During Hasse Persson time in BoIS the club played qualification games to Allsvenskan no less than three times: in 1958, 1959 and 1962. Landskrona BoIS failed, however, to take the step up in all occasions. In the qualifying game in 1959 against Degerfors IF a new attendance record for Landskrona IP with 18 535 spectators was created, a record that still stands today. Hasse Persson winded down in his home club Klippan in 1966. He continued to be a welcome guest at Landskrona IP even after his career ended. He died in 2001. [3]

The 1984 Svenska Cupen final took place on 20 June 1984 in Helsingborg. The match was contested by Allsvenskan side Malmö FF and Division 2 Södra side Landskrona BoIS. Landskrona played its first final since 1976 and its fourth final in total. Malmö FF played its first final since 1980 and its 14th final in total. Malmö FF won its 12th title with a 1–0 victory.

A Scanian derby is the name given to any fixture between football clubs in Scania, the southernmost county and traditional province of Sweden. The most high-profile fixture in the region is the rivalry between Helsingborgs IF and Malmö FF. Historically, the rivalry between the two clubs and Landskrona BoIS is also well known. Additional Scanian football clubs that are playing in the upper three tiers of Swedish football are BK Olympic, IFK Malmö, Trelleborgs FF, Lunds BK, Torns IF and Ängelholms FF. Two cities have more than one club in the top three tiers: Malmö with MFF, BK Olympic and IFK Malmö, and Lund with Lunds BK and Torns IF.

The 2013 season was Landskrona BoIS's 98th in existence, their 51st season in the second highest division, their 10th season in Superettan and their 8th consecutive season in the league. They competed in Superettan and Svenska Cupen. The season began with the group stage of Svenska Cupen in March, and league play started in April and lasted until November. Jörgen Pettersson replaced Henrik Larsson as manager in December 2012, and Georg "Rossi" Eterovic replaced Hans Eklund as assistant manager. The captain this season was Linus Malmqvist, with Fredrik Svanbäck as vice captain.

Sonny Johansson is a former Swedish football player, who between 1968 and 1984 represented Landskrona BoIS. He played in Allsvenskan during ten seasons, 1971 until 1980. Even though he never won the top scorer competition in any single year during the 1970s, he scored more goals than any other Allsvenskan player during the entire decade. Other achievements for his club included the promotion to Allsvenskan in 1970, winning the Swedish Cup final 1972 and two Allsvenskan bronze medals for the 1975 and 1976 seasons. He also played 3 caps for the Sweden national team, and scored one goal. There were voices that suggested that he would have represented Sweden at many more occasions if it was not for the Sweden national manager of the time, Georg "Åby" Ericson. The supporters of Landskrona BoIS gave him the nickname "Kung Sune, vår vän". In English "King Sune, our friend". Sonny Johansson played 638 games for the club and scored 310 goals.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sigvard Pettersson</span> Swedish footballer (1928–2002)

Sigvard "Kallinge" Pettersson (1928–2002) was a Swedish footballer and a centre forward in the classical 2-3-5 formation, who during his career in Landskrona BoIS represented the club at 313 occasions and scored 298 goals – an average of 0.95 goals per game. Through the first 99 years of Landskrona BoIS' history, only Harry "Hacke" Dahl and Sonny Johansson have scored more goals for the club. Pettersson's nickname "Kallinge" came from the small Blekinge village where he grew up. During the later part of his many years in Landskrona BoIS he played together with Hasse "HP" Persson in the front. In the 1980s, Pettersson was running a smaller tobacco shop in Landskrona. He died in 2002 at age 73.

Tommy Gustafsson, known as Tommy "Gyxa" Gustafsson, is a Swedish former footballer who played as a forward.
