Information

The airstrip services the greater Flinders Ranges area up North in South Australia. The airstrip has only 1 runway (18/36) which is made from Asphalt. The airfield services the RFDS services, with a close proximity to the Flinders Rangers Way. [1]

There is a small parking area for small aircraft. There is also a small service area, with toilets and water. There is no Avgas.

The Mid North is a region of South Australia, north of the Adelaide Plains, but not as far north as the Far North, or the outback. It is generally accepted to extend from Spencer Gulf east to the Barrier Highway, including the coastal plain, the southern part of the Flinders Ranges, and the northern part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The area was settled as early as 1840 and provided early farming and mining outputs for the fledgling colony. Farming is still significant in the area, particularly wheat, sheep and grapevines. The airport is owned and operated by the Flinders Council. The airport site has a total area of approximately 134 hectares. Access to the airport is off Palana Road. The primary aviation facilities at Flinders Island Airport consist of two sealed runways, a sealed taxiway, a sealed apron, a grassed apron and a fuel storage facility. Adjacent to the sealed apron is a passenger terminal building with an associated car parking area. There is only one small hangar on the site at present. The primary use of Flinders Island Airport is for Regular Public Transport (RPT) services operated by Sharp Airlines which offers services to and from Melbourne and Launceston. The airport is also used for charter and freight services, emergency services and private/recreational flying.
