Hazel Chaisty is a British Paralympic archer.

Career

Chaisty took up para-archery in 2014 after losing her leg. [1] Soon after, she was part of the Team GB team that won bronze in the 2014 European Para-Archery Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland, in the Recurve Mixed event alongside David Phillips. [2] She repeated the feat in the 2016 event in Saint-Jean-de-Monts, France, this time in the Recurve Women Open event. Despite this, she was not selected for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, but still attended as part of UK Sport's Paralympic Inspiration Programme. [2]

In 2018, Chaisty won her third consecutive bronze medal in the European Para-Archery Championships in Plzen, Czechia, in the Mixed Recurve team event alongside Phillips. She was subsequently selected for the 2019 Fazza Para-Archery World Ranking Tournament in Dubai, where she won gold in the Recurve Women's Open. [3] Later that year, in the 2019 World Para-Archery Championships in Den Bosch, Netherlands, she finished 16th. [4] These results were enough to see her selected to represent Team GB in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.

Personal life

Chaisty was born in Manchester, but lives in Hadfield, Derbyshire. [2] She is coached by Charlotte Burgess.

Chaisty is a keen bee-keeper. Before losing her leg, she enjoyed scuba-diving. [2]

Zahra Nemati is an Iranian Paralympic and Olympic archer. She originally competed in taekwondo before she was paralyzed in a car accident. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics she won two medals, an individual gold and team bronze. She has qualified to compete at both the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2016 Summer Paralympics. She was the flag bearer at the 2016 Olympics and the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo where she shared the honour with thrower Nourmohammad Arekhi.

Sharon Vennard British archer

Sharon Vennard is a British competitive archer who competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.

Patrick Huston is a British Olympian archer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He captured three world championship titles under the youth level, and eventually competed as a member of the archery squad of Team GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio, losing the second round match to the eventual champion Ku Bon-chan of South Korea. Huston currently lives near Lilleshall National Sporting Centre and trains full-time under senior national coach Richard Priestman for Archery UK, while remaining a loyal founding member of East Belfast Archery Club. World ranking 57 at 2 July 2021.

Archery at the 2016 Summer Paralympics

Archery at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held between 10 and 17 September 2016 at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí in the Maracana zone of Rio de Janeiro, and consisted of nine events. The make up of those events changed substantially from the 2012 games, and consisted of three men's events, three women's events and three events for mixed gender teams. Men, women and mixed teams each competed in two events for compound bow, one for wheelchair athletes, the other open, and an open event for recurve bow, the bow used for all Olympic events.

Choi Mi-sun is a South Korean recurve archer. She won gold medal in the women's team event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Ankita Bhakat is an Indian recurve archer who is currently ranked world number 32 by the World Archery Federation. She is a member of the Indian national recurve team and competes in international events in the women's individual, women's team and the mixed team recurve categories. She competed in the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships held at Rosario, Argentina and won the gold medal in the recurve junior mixed team event with partner Jemson Singh Ningthoujam.

Great Britain at the 2020 Summer Paralympics Sporting event delegation

Great Britain competed in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. Originally scheduled to take place between 21 August and 6 September 2020, the Games were postponed to 24 August to 5 September 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. British athletes have competed at sixteen consecutive Summer Paralympics since 1960.
