Hell Is in Your Head is the eighth studio album by American rock band Senses Fail. It was released on July 15, 2022 through Pure Noise Records.
Senses Fail released their seventh studio album If There Is Light, It Will Find You in February 2018. It marked a return to the emo sound of their debut studio album Let It Enfold You (2004). [1] It was promoted with two headlining tours of the United States, a stint on the Warped Tour, and a co-headlining US tour with the Amity Affliction. [2]
Co-produced by Saosin's Beau Burchell, Hell Is In Your Head marks the band's first studio album since 2018's If There Is Light, It Will Find You.
The general theme of the album discusses lead singer Buddy Nielsen’s ideas of how to process grief. Nielsen’s wife suffered complications during the birth of the couple’s first child, and was nearly seriously injured. He explained "My wife had a pretty serious childbirth" and added "I do not want to say she almost died but it was pretty scary for a minute. And the relationship you have to have with your child is just a constant letting go of yourself in ways that you did not necessarily perceive you needed to. I had to start to come to terms with my own death because my daughter, who's now four, keeps asking about it. So this felt like an opportunity to maybe address grief and how we process being - how do you have a kid, how do you be alive, how do you continue to live a meaningful life while also knowing that you're going to die? ”. When the general background of the album focuses heavily on death, existentialism, the fragility of human life, grief, and parenthood.
"Lush Rimbaugh", the first single off the album, was released on the same day its subject of lyrics, who had been terminally ill for a year, died. According to Nielsen, the song is not meant to be a celebration of death but rather a truthful eulogy for somebody who had dedicated their whole life to causing offense to others. [3]

Kerrang! gave a score of 4 out of 5 and they say "This album is purposefully careless, its words are the most potent part of what makes it magical, both outrageous and down to earth. It's an honest fresh wound, like the raw skin of a grazed knee as Buddy stands to his feet, brushing it off and embracing the fall ". They say the style is similar to those bands Taking Back Sunday, The Used, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. [5]
Blabbermouth.net gave a score of 75 out of 100 and they say "Lyrically, the band has always put forward a unique brand of blunt honesty speckled with moments of poetry. On this album, Nielsen's lyrics are so frank that they sometimes sound strange in song form , such as, "I've been reading my horoscope" ("Death By Water") and "The polar bears are dying" ("Miles To Go"). In many ways, these songs come across more like diary entries. And perhaps, that is the best way to experience this record: as a way of getting to know the artist better. Maybe that's not enough to make this an excellent record, but it's enough to make it an interesting one". [4]
Sean Reid stated in his review for Punktastic, "While stylistically reliable, and often punchy, 'HIIYH' doesn't fully stand out from previous Senses Fail records. Where the mid-2010 outings 'Pull The Thorns From Your Heart' and 'Renacer' embraced a heavy, chaotic hardcore sound, 'HIIYH' continues the band's melodic return that began with 2018's 'If There Is Light, It Will Find You'. Although it's favourable and executed well, there is a tendency where hooks blur the line between sounding familiar and recycled. 'Miles To Go' is a fitting example of this, proving to be one of the album's most forgettable moments." [7]

Senses Fail is an American rock band formed in Ridgewood, New Jersey, in 2001. Founded by vocalist James "Buddy" Nielsen, drummer Dan Trapp, guitarists Garrett Zablocki and Dave Miller, and bassist James Gill ; the band has seen many lineup changes, with Nielsen being the only consistent member.
Let It Enfold You is the debut studio album by American emo band Senses Fail, released on September 7, 2004, through Vagrant Records. After finalizing their line-up, the band released their debut EP, From the Depths of Dreams, in 2002, which attracted the attention of Drive-Thru Records. The label signed Senses Fail; it had a distribution deal with MCA Records, which allowed them to acquire acts from Drive-Thru. Recording for the band's debut occurred at several studios in New Jersey in April 2003 with producer Steve Evetts. Additional recording took place at the end of the year. Described as an emo and screamo record, several of the songs on Let It Enfold You were influenced by poetry and literature.
Saosin is an American rock band formed in Orange County, California in 2003 by Beau Burchell, Justin Shekoski, Zach Kennedy, and Anthony Green. The band released their first EP, Translating the Name, in 2003. That year, vocalist Anthony Green left Saosin due to personal reasons, and was replaced by Cove Reber in 2004. With Reber, the group recorded their self titled debut album, released on Capitol Records in 2006.

Still Searching is the second studio album by American post-hardcore/emo band Senses Fail, released October 10, 2006 through Vagrant Records. A month after the release of their debut studio album Let It Enfold You (2004), the band had enough material for their next album. Guitarist Heath Saraceno, formerly of Midtown replaced Dave Miller in late 2005. They spent the next several months writing more material and demoing songs. They recorded over six weeks from May 2006 with producer Brian McTernan at Bearsville Studios in Bearsville, New York. Still Searching is an emo, post-hardcore and screamo album, though it featured less screaming overall compared to past works. It is a concept album that follows a character dealing with faith, heartbreak and depression.
Forget What You Know is the third and final studio album by American rock band Midtown. Following the release of Living Well Is the Best Revenge (2002), MCA was merged into Geffen Records, and the band was not picked up by the latter label. The group spent time writing on their next album and following a meeting with Butch Walker, moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to start recording the new material. Walker headed the producing helm and Forget What You Know was recorded in late 2003 at Ruby Red Studios. The album is classified as an emo and pop punk release; its songs were compared with those of Division of Laura Lee, Recover and Jimmy Eat World.
Mutiny! is the debut studio album by the rock band Set Your Goals. Within the first three months of 2006, the band signed to independent label Eulogy Recordings and recorded the album with Barrett Jones in Seattle, Washington. Immediately following recording, the band embarked on two tours across the United States. Before releasing Mutiny in July, the album was preceded by the single release of the title track. The band subsequently toured the US, either as a supporting act or headlining, into mid-2007. Following the release of the band's second studio album Still Searching (2006), bassist Mike Glita left the band. He was replaced by Jason Black of Hot Water Music shortly afterwards. In early 2008, they were demoing new songs, and by April 2008, they had recorded their next album at Salad Days Studios in Fells Point, Maryland with producer Brian McTernan. Life Is Not a Waiting Room is a post-hardcore and metalcore album about the end of frontman Buddy Nielsen's relationship and dealing with his alcoholism and depression.
We All Need a Reason to Believe is the second studio album by American pop punk band Valencia. It was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, who has done projects for We Are Scientists and Plain White T's. An early review from AbsolutePunk writer Drew Beringer stated the release proved Valencia is "a band that can breathe new life into pop-punk".
The Amity Affliction is an Australian metalcore band from Gympie, Queensland, formed in 2003. The band's current line-up consists of Ahren Stringer, Joel Birch, Dan Brown (guitar) and Joe Longobardi (drums). The Amity Affliction has released seven studio albums including Severed Ties (2008), Youngbloods (2010), Chasing Ghosts (2012), Let the Ocean Take Me (2014), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016) and Misery (2018), the latter four debuting at number one on the ARIA charts. They are known for their highly personal songs, often dealing with depression, anxiety, death, substance abuse, and suicide, many lyrics stemming from vocalist Joel Birch's past struggles. The Amity Affliction released their album, Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them, on 21 February 2020.
The Fire is the fourth studio album by American post-hardcore/emo band Senses Fail and was released on October 26, 2010 through Vagrant Records. It is the first album since Zach Roach replaced Heath Saraceno on guitar, however Garrett Zablocki recorded all the guitar on the album. It is the last album to feature Zablocki as well, as he left the band in 2011.
Bayonet is an American hardcore punk band that formed in 2009. The group features Jeremy Comitas formerly of The Banner, Paul Klein of Suburban Scum, Buddy Nielsen of Senses Fail, and Will Putney of Fit for an Autopsy. Putney is also an established record producer who has engineered albums for Bloodsimple, Suicide Silence and The Human Abstract among others.

Bad Omens is an American metal band from Richmond, Virginia formed in 2015 by vocalist, frontman and producer Noah Sebastian, guitarist Nicholas Ruffilo, and bassist Vincent Riquier. The band was later joined by guitarist Joakim "Jolly" Karlsson and drummer Nick Folio, releasing their critically acclaimed debut self-titled album in 2016 under Sumerian Records. Their second full-length album, Finding God Before God Finds Me, was released in 2019. A deluxe edition was released in 2020, spawning singles "Limits" and "Never Know", which both charted on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart.
