Formed in Teignmouth, Devon in 1994, the band signed with Taste Media before releasing their debut album Showbiz in 1999. The album was a success across Europe, and in the UK reached number 29 on the UK Albums Chart, as well as being certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Five singles were released from Showbiz, with final release "Unintended" the band's first to reach the top 20 on the UK Singles Chart. Muse released their second album Origin of Symmetry in 2001, which reached number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified double platinum by the BPI. The album's first three singles, "Plug In Baby", "New Born" and "Bliss", all reached the UK top 25.
"Cold Shoulder" is a song by the British singer-songwriter Adele, released from her first album 19. It was released digitally in Ireland on 20 April 2008 and in the UK on 21 April 2008. "Cold Shoulder" is the only song on the album to be produced by Mark Ronson. The former Jamiroquai bass guitarist Stuart Zender plays bass guitar on the song and is also part of Ronson's touring band. Adele performed the song on Friday Night with Jools Holland on 8 February 2008 and on Saturday Night Live during the 18 October 2008 show. A remix by Basement Jaxx also received airplay and is digitally available.

Formed in Sheffield in 2004 by vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarists Lee Malia and Curtis Ward, bassist Matt Kean and drummer Matt Nicholls, the band released their debut EP This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For on Thirty Days of Nights Records in 2005, which reached number 41 on the UK Budget Albums Chart. After signing with British independent record label Visible Noise, the group released their debut full-length studio album Count Your Blessings in 2006, which reached the top 100 of the UK Albums Chart and the top 10 of the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart. The 2008 follow-up Suicide Season reached the UK top 50 and charted in the US for the first time when it reached number 107 on the Billboard 200. In November 2009, an expanded version of the album titled Suicide Season Cut Up! was released, featuring remixes and videos.

"Blind Faith" is featured on the soundtrack of the racing video games Dirt 3 and Forza Horizon. The song was used by BBC Sport during its coverage of the 2013 World Athletics Championships.

The song featured in the trailer for the video game Sonic Lost World and in-games Forza Horizon and Beat Fever, as well as soundtracking promos for the WWE Network. The latest album, Californian Soil, was released on 16 April 2021 and became their second-consecutive No. 1 album in the United Kingdom.
