High Potential is an upcoming American drama television series created by Drew Goddard for ABC. It is based on the 2021 French television series HPI . [1] The series is set to premiere on September 17, 2024. [2]

Production

Development

On September 20, 2022, High Potential was given a pilot order by ABC. The pilot is written by Drew Goddard. [5] On May 16, 2023, High Potential was picked to series by ABC. The series is created by Goddard who is expected to executive produce alongside Sarah Esberg, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Pierre Laugier, Anthony Lancret, Jean Nainchrik, and Alethea Jones. Jones also directed the pilot. Thomas also is expected to serve as the showrunner. Kaitlin Olson is expected to serve a producer. Production companies involved with the series are Goddard Textiles, Spondoolie Productions, Itinéraire Productions, Septembre Productions, and ABC Signature. [1] On June 5, 2024, Thomas exited as the showrunner for the series. [6] On June 21, 2024, Todd Harthan was announced as the new showrunner who also serves as an executive producer, replacing Thomas. [7] It is slated to premiere on September 17, 2024. [2]

Casting

Upon the series pickup announcement, Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, and Judy Reyes were cast in starring roles. [1] On July 1, 2024, Garret Dillahunt joined cast in a recurring capacity. [8] On August 21, 2024, Taran Killam was cast in a recurring role. [9]

Akdeniz is also known for his roles as "Raff" on the Disney television series As the Bell Rings, Aladdin on season six of the ABC television series Once Upon a Time, Robb Wellens on season three of Siren, and Max on the HBO Max comedic thriller The Flight Attendant. He also starred in the 2023 film You Hurt My Feelings.

Amirah Charline Vann is an American actress and singer. She began her career on the Off-Broadway stage before starring in the WGN America period drama series, Underground (2016—2017), for which she received NAACP Image Award nomination. She later starred as attorney Tegan Price in the ABC legal thriller series, How to Get Away with Murder (2017—2020). In 2022, Vann starred in the period romantic drama film, A Jazzman's Blues.
