Higher Self is the third extended play by South African rapper Dope Saint Jude. It was released on 2 April 2022 through the French record label, Yotanka. [1] The 6-track album is composed of Dope Saint Jude's vocals combined with elements of alternative R&B and electronic music. [2] [3]

Higher Self' is my most introspective EP thus far. I wrote it during the height of the pandemic, having being afforded time to pause and reflect on my life. I had moved to another country, found love and was steadily forging my path in the world. It became necessary to mark this moment. A good friend once told me that making music is like casting spells, and I take that very seriously. I believe that the music I make can define my existence, so it is important to me to make music that is pure and reflective of where I am, where I want to be and where I am going. The EP starts with "War" a track dedicated to the memory of my mother and grandmother. Like many African women, the lives of my mom and grandmother were often marked by sacrifice and suffering. This track is my commitment to break that cycle and do good on the emotional, mental and spiritual investment they made in me. [4]
The third single "You're Gonna Make it" was featured on the Netflix show, Inventing Anna . [5]
The single "Home" was released on January 26, 2022, with the music video shortly following after. The song addresses the intimacy and tenderness of a relationship. [6] Dope Saint Jude speaking to Attitude Magazine about the inspiration behind the song and video:
I wrote the track during lockdown when I was unable to visit home. During the pandemic, my wife Roxanne and I moved into our first unshared apartment and began the process of building a home together. The track celebrates the many different facets that make up the feeling of 'home'… It was important for me to capture the essence of our relationship in this video. It has some BDSM elements, some more playful elements, and overall gives the audience insight into the intimacy shared by two women. [7]

Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, also known by his stage name Kid Cudi, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, and fashion designer. Born and raised in Cleveland, Cudi moved to New York City in pursuit of a musical career, where he first gained recognition for his song "Day 'n' Nite". Initially self-published on his MySpace page, the song became a hit online and served as a catalyst for Cudi to team up with record producers Plain Pat and Emile Haynie to record his first full-length project, a mixtape titled A Kid Named Cudi (2008). Its release helped Cudi rise to prominence and establish a fanbase, catching the attention of rapper Kanye West—who signed Cudi to his GOOD Music label by late 2008.
David Arnold Augustine Jr., known professionally as Dee-1, is an American rapper, author, educator, and activist from New Orleans, Louisiana. The success of his 2010 single, "Jay, 50, and Weezy", led him to sign a recording contract with RCA Inspiration three years later. In 2019, he parted ways with the label in favor of an independent career.

Vincent Jamal Staples is an American rapper, songwriter and actor. He signed with Talib Kweli's Blacksmith Records prior to releasing his collaborative mixtape with Mac Miller, Stolen Youth (2013). The following year, he signed with No I.D.'s ARTium Recordings, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings to release his debut extended play, Hell Can Wait (2014)—which marked his first entry on the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim.
Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller, was an American rapper. Miller began his career in Pittsburgh's local hip hop scene in 2007, at the age of 15. In 2010, he signed a record deal with independent label Rostrum Records and released his breakthrough mixtapes K.I.D.S. (2010) and Best Day Ever (2011). Miller's debut studio album, Blue Slide Park (2011), became the first independently distributed debut album to top the US Billboard 200 since 1995.
Brooke Dyan Candy is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and tattoo artist. Raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, she rose to prominence after starring in Grimes' music video for "Genesis" (2012). Following its success, Candy's status in the underground scene rose as she began to release her own music, including the songs "Das Me" (2012), "Everybody Does" (2013), and "I Wanna Fuck Right Now" (2013). In 2014, she signed a recording contract with RCA and released her debut major label single, "Opulence", with an accompanying EP of the same name. Later, she joined Columbia's UK roster.
Homegrown is the second EP by American rapper Chris Webby. The EP was released on November 12, 2013, by his own label Homegrown Music and eOne Music. The EP features a guest appearance by Strange Music rapper Rittz, and contains production by Harry Fraud, DJ Burn One, Rich Kidd, Sap, and Ned Cameron among others. The Score is an American alternative rock duo formed in New York City in 2011, now based in Los Angeles. The group consists of Eddie Anthony Ramirez and Edan Chai Dover. Chris Coombs and Logan Baldwin are touring members for the band. They were signed to Republic Records in 2015 after their song "Oh My Love" was featured in an advertising campaign for Asda supermarkets. They are currently signed to Imperial Records.

Faiyaz rose to prominence following his guest performance alongside Shy Glizzy on GoldLink's 2016 single "Crew". Shotgunz In Hell is a collaborative studio album by American hardcore hip hop group Onyx and Dutch hardcore hip hop group Dope D.O.D., released on May 29, 2017, by Onyx & Dope D.O.D. Records. Physical copies of the album became available on July 15, 2017. The album was produced by Dutch producers Tjibz, Nightwatch, Peter Songolo, Ezra, Bananaz and Chubeats, and Spanish producer Cookin' Soul. The album features appearances by American rappers Sick Flo, Snak the Ripper, Dope D.O.D.'s ex-member Dopey Rotten and DJ Nelson.
blkjuptr is the second extended play by American rapper Smino. It was released on December 11, 2015 with Zero Fatigue under license to Downtown Records. The EP was later re-released on June 3, 2016 on all digital platforms. Production was handled by Monte Booker, who previously worked with Smino on his S!Ck S!Ck S!Ck EP. He would go on to produce the bulk of his debut album, 2017's blkswn. Guest features came from Jay2 and Julien Bell.
