Chandigarh is a city, district and union territory in India that serves as the joint capital of the two neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is bordered by the state of Punjab to the west and the south, and by the state of Haryana to the east. It constitutes the bulk of the Chandigarh Capital Region or Greater Chandigarh, which also includes the adjacent satellite cities of Panchkula and Mohali. It is located 260 km north of New Delhi and 229 km southeast of Amritsar.

Randeep Singh Surjewala is an Indian politician from Haryana and a member of Indian National Congress party. He was an MLA in the Haryana state legislature until 2019 and a former minister. He held water supply and sanitation, parliamentary affairs, electronics and information technology, science and technology and public works as a minister in Haryana cabinet. In 2005, he was given the responsibility of Transport and Parliamentary Affairs and thus became the youngest minister in Haryana. He defeated Om Prakash Chautala in 1996 and 2005. As of December 2017, Surjewala is one of the official spokespersons of Indian National Congress party, and as of September 2021, is a General Secretary of the Indian National Congress and Party in-charge for Karnataka. In the biennial elections of the Rajya Sabha for the State of Rajasthan, held on 10 June 2022, Mr. Surjewala was elected as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, with his term to start on 5 July 2022.

Sarbdeep Singh Virk is a former Indian police official and the erstwhile Director General of Police in the states of Punjab and Maharashtra. Passing the civil services examinations of 1970, he joined the Maharashtra cadre of the Indian Police Service and was sent, on deputation, to Punjab in 1984 when the Sikh insurgency in the state was at its zenith, exposing him to three unsuccessful attempts on his life. He worked in the state in different positions till 2007, eventually becoming the Director General of Police, when charges of corruption levelled against him forced the state government to suspend him from service.

He served as the principal secretary to three chief ministers of Haryana and is a former secretary at the ministries of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Agriculture. He is one of the founders of Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai and the founder chairman of Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2009, for his contributions to Indian civil service.

Manto earned seven nominations at 64th Filmfare Awards including Best Film Critics, Best Actor Critics for Siddiqui.
Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-16 is a State-funded co-educational secondary school located in Chandigarh, India, educating students in grades K–12. Founded in 1954, it is the oldest school in Chandigarh and among the most selective. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and offers twenty-three subjects at the AISSCE level, among the highest for any school in the region. It also claims a 100% pass percentage at the All India Secondary School Certificate Examination level.
Parmeshwari Lal Varma, often shortened to P. L. Varma, is an Indian civil engineer and a former chief engineer of Punjab. He served as an associate of Le Corbusier, the Swiss-French architect, who designed the city of Chandigarh. There have been reports that Le Corbusier wanted Verma to assist him even past his retirement from service for which Jawaharlal Nehru, the then prime minister of India, unsuccessfully requested the Government of Punjab for the extension of Verma's service. His involvement in the making of Chandigarh has been documented in a book, Le Corbusier Rediscovered: Chandigarh and Beyond, in which he has written a special article. The Government of India awarded him Padma Bhushan, the third highest Indian civilian award, in 1971. In June 2001, The Tribune noted that Verma was deceased.
Kanwal Singh Chauhan is an Indian farmer from Haryana, India. He is known for his contributions to crop diversification in the agriculture industry. In January 2019, he was awarded Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award. He was honoured with N. G.Ranga Farmer Award 2010 by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in August 2011.
