The 1964 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XVIII Olympiad and commonly known as Tokyo 1964, were an international multi-sport event held from 10 to 24 October 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo had been awarded the organization of the 1940 Summer Olympics, but this honor was subsequently passed to Helsinki due to Japan's invasion of China, before ultimately being cancelled due to World War II. Tokyo was chosen as the host city during the 55th IOC Session in West Germany on 26 May 1959.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days is a 2004 Japanese anime film written, produced, cinematographed, directed and edited by Makoto Shinkai in his feature film debut. As international tensions rise and a mysterious tower built by the Union starts replacing matter around it with matter from other universes, they cross paths once again and realize their missing friend might be the key to saving the world.
Balzac is a Japanese punk rock band formed in 1992 in Kyoto. The band was founded by singer and songwriter Hirosuke Nishiyama, who has remained the only constant member of the band since its creation. Since the beginning, Balzac was highly influenced by the sound and image of the American horror punk band Misfits and, especially during the very early years, Glenn Danzig's Samhain, adopting and combining the musical and visual style of both bands to create their own. Balzac's lyrics, though not always serious in tone, often deal with themes of darkness, loneliness and fear.
"Day the Earth Caught Fire" is a song by the Japanese horror punk band Balzac from their 1995 album The Last Men on Earth. In 2002 it was covered by the Misfits for a split single celebrating Balzac's signing to the newly formed Misfits Records, with Balzac covering a medley of the Misfits songs "The Haunting" and "Don't Open 'Til Doomsday" from the 1997 album American Psycho. Balzac also filmed a music video for their version. The international version of the single was titled "Day the Earth Caught Fire" and had the Misfits as track 1 and Balzac as track 2, while the Japanese release was titled "Don't Open 'Til Doomsday" and had the tracks in reverse order.

The Birth of Evil is an album by the Japanese horror punk band Balzac. The album contains re-recordings of the band's earliest material. Tracks 1-6 are from the first demo tape Scapegoat 666, tracks 7-12 are from the second demo tape Descent of the Diabolos and tracks 13-17 are unreleased songs that were generally played by Hirosuke's previous band, Astrozombies. The two versions of The Complete Legacy Book, labeled as "Scapegoat" and "Diabolos", each contain a re-recording of the original demo tape associated with the version of the book, and these recordings appear on The Birth of Evil remastered. The remaining tracks are entirely new to this album. The Birth of Evil is billed as the "Early Balzac Songs 1992-1994 Compilation" on the back cover.
Shoya Tomizawa was a Japanese motorcycle racer. After a successful career in the All Japan Road Race Championship, he switched to MotoGP and competed in the 250cc class during 2009. In the 2010 season he rode in the newly created Moto2 class. Tomizawa won the first race of the new class, at Losail in Qatar, winning by nearly five seconds from Alex Debón and Jules Cluzel. Tomizawa died after sustaining cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma at the San Marino Grand Prix.

Madeline de Jesús is a retired female track and field athlete from Puerto Rico, who competed in the women's long jump and triple jump during her career. Her personal best in the long jump was set on July 24, 1988 in Mexico City. She finished fifth in the long jump at the 1987 Pan American Games. De Jesús twin sister Margaret de Jesús also competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics, in the women's 400 metres. Madeline is currently living in Belgium where she's active as a sports teacher and coach.
Makoto Tomizawa is a Japanese windsurfer, who specialized in Neil Pryde RS:X class. He represented Japan in two editions of the Olympic Games and has been currently training for Kanto Auto Works Sailing Team in Kanagawa Prefecture under his personal coach Kazuto Seki. As of September 2013, Tomizawa is ranked no. 42 in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation.

Hidehiko Tomizawa is a retired Japanese high jumper. He won a silver medal at the 1970 Asian Games and placed 19th at the 1972 Olympics.
Makoto Douglas Sakamoto is a retired Japanese-born American artistic gymnast and coach. He competed at the 1964 and 1972 Summer Olympics with the best individual result of 17th place on parallel bars in 1972. Domestically he won the AAU titles in the all-around and horizontal bar in 1963, in the all-around in 1964, and in all seven events in 1965.
Yasuko Kosuge is a Japanese former windsurfer, who specialized in the RS:X class. She was the country's top female windsurfer for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in thirteenth place. A member of Toyama Sailing Federation, Kosuge trained most of her competitive sporting career for the national team.
