Hirwaun, Penderyn and Rhigos

Hirwaun, Penderyn and Rhigos (formerly two separate wards Hirwaun and Rhigos) is the northernmost electoral ward in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It covers the communities of Hirwaun (including the village of Penderyn) and Rhigos. The ward elects two county borough councillors to the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. It is the largest ward in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

While being the largest ward in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Rhigos was also one of the least populous. According to the 2011 census the population of the Rhigos ward was 1,700. [1]

2022 ward changes

The area around the village of Hirwaun was formerly an electoral ward in its own right. Following a local government boundary review, Hirwaun was merged with the much larger Rhigos ward to become 'Hirwaun, Penderyn and Rhigos'. The number of councillors for the ward increased from one to two. This was effective from the May 2022 local elections. [2]

It is 4 miles (6 km) NW of the town of Aberdare, and comes under the Aberdare post town. At the 2001 census, Hirwaun had a population of 4,851. increasing at the 2011 census to 4,990. The village is on the Heads of the Valleys Road and at the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Aberaman is an electoral ward in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It was an electoral ward for much of the twentieth century, for the purposes of electing members to Glamorgan County Council and the Aberdare Urban District Council. The village of Aberaman was subsequently covered by two electoral wards, Aberaman North and Aberaman South, for the purposes of electing members to the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. The 2017 Rhondda Cynon Taf Council election took place on Thursday 4 May 2017 to elect members of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in Wales. The 2022 Rhondda Cynon Taf election took place on 5 May 2022 to elect 54 members across 46 wards to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. On the same day, elections were to the other 21 local authorities and to community councils in Wales as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. The previous Rhondda Cynon Taf all-council election took place in 2017 and future elections will take place every five years.

Mountain Ash is the name of an electoral ward to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. It was re-created by the merger of Mountain Ash East and Mountain Ash West, following a local government boundary review, effective from the May 2022 local elections.

Penrhiw-ceibr is the name of an electoral ward in the Cynon Valley, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It's boundaries are coterminous with the village and community of Penrhiwceiber. The ward elects two councillors to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
