The tournament doubled as the qualifier to the 2014 Women's Hockey Champions Trophy to be held in Argentina as the winner earned an automatic berth to compete.

The Women's field hockey event for the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium from 4–14 October 2010. The Gold medal was won by Australia, who defeated New Zealand 4–2 on penalty strokes after the match had finished 2–2. England won the bronze medal by defeating South Africa 1–0.

Women's field hockey at the 2006 Commonwealth Games took place between 16 March and 25 March. The competition consisted of a round robin stage of two groups of five with the winners and runners-up of each group qualifying for the semifinals. All matches were played at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in the Parkville area of Melbourne.

India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Sporting event delegation

India competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018. It was India's 17th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. With 26 Gold medals and a total of 66 medals, India finished 3rd for the tournament. It was India's best position since the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which they hosted.

The men's field hockey event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre from 5 to 14 April 2018. The tournament served as a test event for the field hockey tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The tournament featured four of the top nations in women's field hockey.

The 2016 Women's EuroHockey Indoor Nations Championship II was the 11th edition of the tournament. It was held from 22 to 24 January 2018 in Cambrai, France.

The 2017 Women's Oceania Cup was the tenth edition of the women's field hockey tournament. It was held from 11 to 15 October in Stratford.

The 2019 Women's Oceania Cup was the eleventh edition of the women's field hockey tournament. It was held from 5 to 8 September in Rockhampton.
