Honour is a 2014 British contemporary thriller film focusing on "honour killings".
The story depicts a young woman, Mona, living in London with her family of Pakistani origins. Mona has a boyfriend of whom her family do not approve, and believe the relationship to be a blight on the family's honour. After plans to elope fail, Mona is forced to go on the run from her family, who attempt to locate and punish her, which will likely lead to her being killed. [1]
The critical reception was mixed, receiving a 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a consensus that the positives of Khan's direction were wasted on a "formulaic, intermittently effective thriller". Rex Reed in the New York Observer saying it is "no masterpiece, but it is an accomplished debut", [2] and Jeanette Catsoulis in The New York Times commenting "what this confident debut lacks in subtlety, it more than makes up in execution". [3] Mark Kermode of The Observer reviewed the film giving it a rating of 2 out of 5 stars saying it "avoids worthiness but succumbs to melodrama". [4]
Thora Birch is an American actress, producer, and director. She made her feature film debut in 1988 with a starring role in Purple People Eater, for which she received a Young Artist Award for "Best Actress Under Nine Years of Age". Birch rose to prominence as a child star during the 1990s through a string of parts in films such as Paradise (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995), and Alaska (1996). Her breakthrough into adult-oriented roles came with her portrayal of Jane Burnham in American Beauty (1999), for which she was nominated for that year's BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress.

Aiysha Hart delivers a mesmerizing performance as a beautiful Pakistani immigrant raised in England who disgraces her family by planning an elopement with a handsome preppie Punjabi boy.
There's nothing amateurish, however, about Shan Khan's writing and directing, unless you count a weakness for melodrama and a pacing more suited to entertainment than to enlightenment.
