Hooghly Madrasah is one of the oldest educational institute in West Bengal. It was established by a renowned philanthropist of Bengal, Haji Muhammad Mohsin.

History

Haji Muhammad Mohsin (1732–1812) a renowned philanthropist of Bengal, donated all his properties for the Muslim community in 1806 by establishing a waqf (charitable endowment). Five years after his death, ‘Madrasa-e-Mahsania’ was established on the bank of Ganges at Chinchura town. [1] This madrasa was later came to be known as Hooghly Madrasa. Hooghly Mahsin College was established in 1836 by `Mohsin Endowment Fund’ and Hooghly Madrasa was administered by the College. In 1915, madrasa syllabus was revised by the British government and modern education was introduced. Since 1940 Hooghly Madrasa is also functioning as an intermediate college. After the independence and until 1962, West Bengal State Madrasa Board office was in the madrasa premises. Now it is only fully Govt. sponsored Madrasa and administered directly by the education department of West Bengal- Department of School Education.

Hooghly Imambara Historical Site in Hooghly

Hooghly Imambara is a Shia Muslim congregation hall and mosque in Hooghly, West Bengal, India. The construction of the building was started by Muhammad Mohsin in 1841 and completed in 1861. The building is a two storied structure, with a tall clock tower over the entrance gate. The mosque has intricate designs and texts from Quran engraved on the wall. The interior of the mosque is decorated with marbles, candles and hanging lanterns.

Nizam-e-Islam Party Bangladeshi political party

TheNizam-e-Islam Party or simply Nizam-e-Islam, is a political party in Bangladesh and Pakistan. The party was founded in the city of Kishoreganj in 1952, by the Islamic scholars of erstwhile East Bengal, Pakistan as an offshoot of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. Muhammad Wakkas was a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar, teacher, former Member of Parliament and State Minister. He was the founder of Jamia Imdadia Madaninagar Madrasa, the largest madrasa in South Bengal, accommodating roughly 2000 students.

Sharaf ad-Dīn Abū Tawʾamah was an Islamic scholar, author and muhaddith based in the subcontinent. He played a large role in disseminating Islam in eastern Bengal, establishing one of the country's first madrasas. According to A. F. M. Abdur Rahman, in addition to his proficiency in Persian and Arabic, he became well conversant in the local Old Bengali language of the time.

Mohammad Abu Bakr Siddique

Mohammad Abu Bakr Siddique Al Quraishi was a Pir and sufi saint of West Bengal, India. He was the founding Pir of Furfura Sharif, which is considered a religious pilgrimage site for the Muslims of the two Bengals. He was called Mujaddid-e-Zaman Amir-e-Shariat for his religious contributions. He has made a significant contribution in spreading Shari'ah and Tariqat, establishment of mosques and madrasas, publication of newspapers and spread of education in remote areas of Bengal and India. It is believed that he was a famous descendant of Abu Bakr who was the first Caliph of Islam.

ʿAbd al-Wāḥid Bengālī was a 19th-century Muslim theologian, teacher and social reformer. He was one of the initiators of the Deobandi movement into Bengal, and co-founded Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam in 1896.
