Huang Jong-tsun (born 30 March 1947) is a Taiwanese psychologist and politician who serves as the current President of the Examination Yuan. [1] Prior to assuming his current role,Huang had served as President of China Medical University from 2005 to 2014 and Minister of Education from 2002 and 2004. He is the first President of the Examination Yuan not affiliated with any political party. [2]
Huang was born to a family in Tianzhong Town of Changhua County on 30 March 1947. He once attended the Jingxiu National School. After graduating from the Yuanlin High School in 1965,he got accepted to the National Taiwan University,where he earned a bachelor's degree. As an undergraduate,he initially studied history,but it was changed to psychology about a year later. In 1976,he earned a Ph.D. from National Taiwan University. He became a professor after obtaining his doctorate. [3]
Huang entered politics in 1996,the year when he was appointed director for the Ministry of Science and Technology. He was then promoted in February 2002 to Minister of Education,a position he held until 20 May 2004. [4]
Huang was appointed president of China Medical University in August 2005,having served until 12 February 2014. [5] He resigned following a row during a Legislative Yuan session with Chen Ting-fei,a Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker representing Tainan,over his alleged conflict of interest for assuming chancellorship of the China Medical University months after resigning as Minister of Education. [6] About 500 academics and students from the China Medical University signed a petition pleading Huang to reconsider his decision after he tendered resignation,which the board of directors of the university initially rejected. [7]
Huang was invited [8] and nominated by President Tsai Ing-wen to serve as President of the Examination Yuan on 29 May 2020. [9] [10] His nomination was confirmed by the Legislative Yuan on 10 July 2020 in a 65-3 vote. [11] [12] Legislators from both the Kuomintang and the Taiwan People's Party boycotted the vote,whereas the New Power Party caucus voted against the nominations. [13] [14] Huang was sworn into office on 1 September 2020. [15] [16]
The Abnaki-class tug is a class of United States Navy fleet ocean tugs which began construction in November 1942. "Island's Sunrise" is a Taiwanese Hokkien song created by the punk rock band Fire EX. and the Taipei National University of the Arts for the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014. The inception of the song can be attributed to Wu Dar-Kuen (吳達坤) and Chen Ching-Yuan (陳敬元) from the Taipei National University of the Arts,who approached Fire EX. to compose the song. Working in conjunction with the planning team,Fire EX. brought the song to life,resulting in the production of a documentary version and an animated version of the music video,with contributions from animation students. Furthermore,the song was subsequently adapted for orchestra. Demonstrating their support for the Sunflower Student Movement,Fire EX. granted the copyright of both "Goodnight! Formosa!" and "Island's Sunrise" for non-commercial use by individuals who endorse the movement. The song was also widely regarded as one of the key songs of the Sunflower Student Movement and was officially banned in China. Released as a single by Sony Music Entertainment in Taiwan on December 30,2014,and won Best Song of the Year at the 26th Golden Melody Awards the following year.

Huang Jun-ying,a native of Lingya Liao,Kaohsiung City,Takao Prefecture,Taiwan under Japanese rule,was a politician in the Republic of China. He was a member of the 11th Examination Yuan. He was once a chair professor at the School of Management of I-Shou University and the deputy mayor of Kaohsiung City. In 2002 and 2006,he was nominated twice by the Kuomintang to run for mayor of Kaohsiung City. However,he was defeated by Frank Hsieh who was seeking re-election in 2002 with more than 20,000 votes,and by Chen Chu,the former chairman of the Labor Committee in 2006 with only 1,114 votes. On January 10,2014,he died of lung adenocarcinoma while serving as a member of Examination Yuan at the age of 73.
