Hunterville railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand, serving the township of Hunterville. [1] [2]
Goods were first carried to the station on 19 October 1887, [3] though the official opening of the 15 mi 57 ch (25.3 km) Marton to Hunterville section was not until Saturday 2 June 1888, when the station was served by two trains a week, [4] reported as losing £15 a week. [5] A Certificate of Inspection for the line was issued on Wednesday, 6 June 1888. [4] Hunterville closed on 13 October 1986, though the passing loop was retained. [6] A platform also remains. [7]
Opening of the Hunterville Branch (later incorporated in NIMT) was delayed, due to problems with the earlier Porewa Contract and to tenders exceeding government's costings for the work. [8] Due to such problems, works further up the line were mostly let to worker cooperatives. [9] Work was also delayed [10] after William Russell got Parliamentary support to cut spending on public works in September 1885. [11]
The station site was identified in 1885 and a contract to build the station signed on 10 July 1885. Gifford & O'Connor completed the buildings by 24 December 1887, though a 1963 report said it was built in 1904. From 1891 to 1903 there was a Post Office at the station. [3]
In 1896 the station was noted as having a passenger platform, 34 wagon passing loop, privies, urinals, goods shed 30 ft (9.1 m) by 40 ft (12 m), cart approach to platform, loading bank, cattle yards, water service, coaling, engine shed and stationmaster's house. Improvements in 1899 added a verandah, raised the building and extended the platform south, which had only room for two cars and a van. It was further extended in 1912. In 1906 part of the Mangaonoho goods shed was moved to Hunterville, extending the shed to 30 ft (9.1 m) by 60 ft (18 m). From 1910 the station was lit by acetylene gas. [3] Express trains called at Hunterville from 3 April 1911. [12] A crane was added in 1915. [3] Hunterville had its annual returns of traffic recorded, as did Utiku to the north and Marton to the south. For example, it had 16,300 passengers in 1923, and had the largest outward numbers of sheep and pigs on NIMT, at 93,976. [13]
In 1960 the crossing loop was extended to 120 wagons and colour-light signalling installed. [3]
A landslide derailed a DA Class locomotive about 2 mi (3.2 km) south of Hunterville in July 1965, [14] and wagons derailed on 20 January 2005 at Hunterville [15] and on 6 May 2009, just to the north, due to track and wagon defects. [16]
Koputaroa railway station was a station at Koputaroa in Horowhenua District on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand.
Ōhau railway station was a station at Ōhau on the North Island Main Trunk in the Horowhenua District of New Zealand. It closed on 2 November 1987, though most services had stopped in 1971. Only a 1989 equipment building and a passing loop remain.

Halcombe railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) in New Zealand, serving the village of Halcombe, in the Manawatū-Whanganui region. It opened in 1878 and closed in 1983. Originally it was the main intermediate station on the 85 mi 34 ch (137.5 km) Whanganui to Foxton railway. Only a single track remains through the station site, as the passing loops here and at Kakariki were replaced by the Rangitawa loop, 3.03 km (1.88 mi) to the north, on 14 December 1983.
Utiku railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand, and in the Manawatū-Whanganui region. It opened in 1904 and closed in 1986. It was part of the 13+1⁄2 mi (21.7 km) Mangaweka to Taihape section, officially opened by the Prime Minister, Richard Seddon, on 21 November 1904. It closed in 1986. A passing loop remains.
Mangaonoho railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. For almost a decade, from 1893 to 1902, Mangaonoho was important as the northern terminus of the NIMT's southern section; even a refreshment room was planned. The route north was delayed by construction of major viaducts, the first being Makōhine. To build Makōhine a railway workshop was set up just north of Mangaonoho. Unlike many other NIMT construction camps, Mangaonoho gradually declined after the line was completed. By 1911 the population was down to 167. Decline continued, with removal of the stockyards in 1973 and closure in 1982. There is now only a single line through the former station site.
Silverhope railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand, 12 mi 9 ch (19.5 km) from Marton. Rata railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand, between Marton and Hunterville, 9 mi 46 ch (15.4 km) from Marton. There is now just a single track through the station site, a new crossing loop having replaced those at Rata and Porewa from 14 December 1983, 3.04 km (1.89 mi) to the west of Rata. The realignment of State Highway 1 alongside the railway in 2006 took some former railway land.
Porewa railway station was a station on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand located in Pohonui-Porewa, on the Hunterville Branch, 6 mi 42 ch (10.5 km) from Marton. The station was in use from 1887 to 1982, but now has only a single track through the site.
Overton railway station was a very small flag station on the North Island Main Trunk and in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand.

Marton railway station was a station and rail junction on the Marton–New Plymouth Line, opened on 4 February 1878. After the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) made a junction to the south of Marton, a new station was built there and the old station renamed and downgraded, in 1898.
Erua was a station on the North Island Main Trunk line, in the Ruapehu District of New Zealand. It served the small village of Erua. For a month in 1908 it was the terminus of the line from Auckland. Makatote Viaduct and tramway are about 3 mi (4.8 km) south of Erua.
