The Hyperion Theater was located at Disney California Adventure in Hollywood Land. [1] The theater sat up to 1,984 people.
The facade was modeled after that of the Los Angeles Theatre on LA's Broadway.
The Hyperion Theater opened with the park on February 8, 2001; the theater closed on August 31, 2023.
The theater held the world premiere for Spy Kids on March 18, 2001.
The venue's first show was Disney's Steps in Time, a musical featuring songs from various Disney films. Later that year, The Power of Blast, a scaled-down version of the musical Blast! was created for the theater. The Power of Blast closed in fall 2002 to make room for Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular . Inspired by Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin , the show premiered in January 2003.
In spring 2010, it was initially announced that Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular would close and be replaced by Toy Story: The Musical . However, later that year it was announced that the plans were cancelled and that the Aladdin musical would remain for the time being. [2]
The theater also held the world premiere for Disney's The Lone Ranger on June 22, 2013. [3] [4]
Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular closed in January 2016. It was announced that the venue's next show would be a musical inspired by Disney's 2013 animated film Frozen , entitled Frozen – Live at the Hyperion . The show premiered in May 2016. [5] [6]
Earlier this year, it was announced that a one-act version of Rogers: The Musical , the fictional Broadway musical based around the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Captain America that was first introduced in the Disney+ series Hawkeye , would play a limited engagement in mid-2023. It was the venue's final show before it closed for good on Thursday, August 31st, 2023. [7]
In April 2003, a 36-year-old stage technician fell 60 feet from a catwalk in the theater, prompting an investigation by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA). The victim did not regain consciousness following the incident and died in May 2003. In October 2003, Cal/OSHA fined the Disneyland Resort $18,350 for safety violations related to the cast member's death. [8]
In September 2011, a performance of Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was stopped when the flying carpet, while flying out over the audience, stopped and flipped over with two performers on it who were strapped in. No one was hurt in the incident. [9]
Disney California Adventure Park is a theme park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. It is owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company through its Experiences division. The 72-acre (29 ha) park is themed after Disney's interpretation of California, by the use of Disney, Pixar and Marvel Studios properties. The Main Street Electrical Parade is a nighttime parade, created by Robert Jani and project director Ron Miziker. It features floats and live performers covered in over 600,000 electronically controlled LED lights, and uses a synchronized soundtrack triggered by radio control along key areas of the parade route.
Fantasmic! is a nighttime show at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios. The show formerly operated at Tokyo DisneySea. It features fireworks, characters, live actors, water effects, pyrotechnics, lasers, music, audio-animatronics, searchlights, decorated boat floats, and mist screen projections. The narrative of Fantasmic! is a voyage through Mickey Mouse's imagination that culminates in a battle against the Disney Villains.
Muppet*Vision 3D is a 3D film attraction located at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. The attraction also formerly operated at Disney California Adventure. Directed by Jim Henson, the attraction consists of a pre-show which then leads into Kermit the Frog guiding park guests on a tour through Muppet Studios, while the Muppets prepare their sketch acts to demonstrate their new breakthrough in 3D film technology. The show, however, completely unravels when Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's experimental 3D sprite, Waldo, causes mayhem during the next portion of the show.

Toy Story: The Musical is a rock musical inspired by Disney·Pixar's 1995 film Toy Story. Paint the Night Parade was a nighttime parade at Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Disneyland. The Hong Kong version premiered on September 11, 2014, as part of the park's 9th anniversary expansion. The Disneyland version debuted on May 22, 2015, as part of the park's 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration. The parade is a spiritual successor to the long-running Main Street Electrical Parade, which has appeared at numerous Disney parks in several different incarnations since June 17, 1972. At Disneyland Park in California, Paint the Night made its last regular performance on September 5, 2016, and returned as a seasonal offering for the 2016 holiday season. The original Main Street Electrical Parade returned to Disneyland Park on January 19, 2017 for a limited-time run.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration is a musical show based on Disney's 2013 3D computer-animated musical feature film Frozen and the songs from the film, located at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Shanghai Disneyland Park. It was also formerly hosted at Disney California Adventure, Disneyland Park in Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.
Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular was a nighttime show at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. The show is based on the Star Wars film series and features fireworks, projection mapping, fire, lasers, fog effects, and searchlights. During the show, Star Wars imagery is projected onto the park's Chinese Theater facade and surrounding buildings around the park's hub on Hollywood Boulevard. The show had its celebrity-filled World Premiere on Friday, June 17, 2016, replacing the park's similarly-themed display, Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular.
Frozen – Live at the Hyperion is a musical stage show inspired by Disney's 2013 animated film Frozen. It was presented at the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure. The show premiered on May 27, 2016 and had its last four performances on March 13, 2020; the theater then closed March 14.
Avengers Campus is a Marvel Cinematic Universe–themed area located at Disney California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris, and being developed for Hong Kong Disneyland. The Marvel-themed areas or "lands" are being developed simultaneously at the three parks and inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, they instead take place in the "Marvel Theme Park Universe", an alternate universe parallel to it within the Marvel multiverse, in which the Blip and related ensuing events introduced in Avengers: Infinity War did not occur. They are designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment.
