ISBInsight is the biannual research periodical of the Indian School of Business (ISB). [1] It features articles based on Indian and emerging markets-focused management research. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] ISBInsight also publishes interviews with thought leaders and decision makers from industry, academia, government and non-governmental organisations. It presents research across management areas such as strategy, marketing, information technology, accounting, behavioural studies, finance, economics and public policy.

Contents

History

ISBInsight was launched in November 2003. Although it started off as a quarterly publication, it is currently released biannually in print. ISBInsight also releases a monthly newsletter called the Management Briefs. The first editor of the ISBInsight was Bhuvana Ramalingam [7] (2003-2009), followed by Sriram Gopalakrishnan (2009-2012). Chitti Pantulu was Editor between 2014-16. [8] Since 2017, Dr Ashima Sood has been the chief Editor of the periodical. The website for ISBInsight was launched in 2013.

The editorial board members include senior faculty members at the Indian School of Business. Dean Rajendra Srivastava, Siddharth Shekhar Singh, Milind Sohoni, Ramana Sonti, Sanjay Kallapur, Kavil Ramachandran, Deepa Mani, Subramaniam Ramnarayan and Chandrashekhar Sripada are members of the board. Notable contributors to the ISBInsight include Raghuram Rajan, [10] Amitava Chattopadhyay, [11] Arvind Panagariya, [12] S.P.Kothari, [13] Vijay Govindarajan, [14] Douglas W Diamond [15] and Sunil Kant Munjal. ISBInsight draws its diverse and robust research resources from its unique academic centres with leading management and policy research institutes across the globe. The Licence Raj or Permit Raj is a pejorative for the system of strict government control and regulation of the Indian economy that was in place from the 1950s to the early 1990s. Under this system, businesses in India were required to obtain licences from the government in order to operate, and these licences were often difficult to obtain.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Raghuram Rajan</span> Indian economist and former governor of Reserve Bank of India

Raghuram Govind Rajan is an Indian economist and the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. Between 2003 and 2006 he was Chief Economist and director of research at the International Monetary Fund. From September 2013 through September 2016 he was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. In 2015, during his tenure at the RBI, he became the Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Finance Commission</span> Agency in India

The Finance Commissions are commissions periodically constituted by the President of India under Article 280 of the Indian Constitution to define the financial relations between the central government of India and the individual state governments. The First Commission was established in 1951 under The Finance Commission Act, 1951. Fifteen Finance Commissions have been constituted since the promulgation of Indian Constitution in 1950. Individual commissions operate under the terms of reference which are different for every commission, and they define the terms of qualification, appointment and disqualification, the term, eligibility and powers of the Finance Commission. As per the constitution, the commission is appointed every five years and consists of a chairman and four other members.

<i>Enthiran</i> 2010 Indian film directed by S. Shankar

Enthiran (transl. Robot) is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language science fiction action film co-written and directed by S. Shankar. It is the first installment in the Enthiran film series. The film stars Rajinikanth, who plays a dual role as a scientist and the robot alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles with Danny Denzongpa, Santhanam and Karunas in supporting roles. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman while the dialogues, cinematography, editing and art direction were handled by Madhan Karky, R. Rathnavelu, Anthony and Sabu Cyril respectively. The story revolves around the struggle of a scientist named Vaseegaran to control his sophisticated android robot named Chitti, after Chitti's software is upgraded to give it the ability to comprehend and exhibit human emotions. The project backfires when Chitti falls in love with Vaseegaran's girlfriend Sana, and is manipulated by Vaseegaran's mentor Bohra into becoming homicidal.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Arvind Panagariya</span> Indian-American economist

Arvind Panagariya is an Indian economist who is also holding the position of Jagdish Bhagwati, the Director of Deepak and Neera Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies at School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York City. He served as first vice-chairman of the government of India think-tank NITI Aayog between January 2015 and August 2017. He has been appointed as the chairman of 16th Finance Commission by the government of India. He is a former Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India in 2012 for his contributions in the field of economics and Public Policy.

Arvind Virmani is an Indian economist and full time Member of NITI Aayog. He was appointed India's representative to the International Monetary Fund in 2009. Prior to that, he was the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Arvind Subramanian</span> Indian economist and political adviser

Arvind Subramanian is an Indian economist and the former Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, having served from 16 October 2014 to 20 June 2018. Subramanian is currently a Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. He previously served as Professor of Economics at Ashoka University and a Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and Center for Global Development.

The Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India (CEA) advises the government on economic matters and is responsible for the preparation of the Economic survey of India tabled in Parliament before the Union budget of India is presented. The CEA holds the rank of a Secretary to the Government of India.

The App has been discontinued since 2020.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rajiv Kumar (economist)</span> Indian economist

Rajiv Kumar is an Indian economist who had served as the second vice-chairman of the NITI Aayog. He also serves as the chancellor of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune His earlier stint in government was initially with the Ministry of Industry and subsequently in the Ministry of Finance, as economic advisor during the reform years of 1991-1994. He has wide experience of having worked in government, academia, industry associations, as well as in international financial institutions. He also served as an independent director on the central boards of the Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of India.

Krishnamurthy Venkata Subramanian is an Indian economist who served as the 17th Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. Subramanian is a leading expert on economic policy, banking and corporate governance, who was the youngest Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, serving from 2018 to 2021. He has been appointed to the post of India's Executive Director at the IMF, with effect from November 1, 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Arvind Krishna</span> Indian-American business executive (born 1962)

Arvind Krishna is an Indian-American business executive, and the chairman and CEO of IBM. He has been CEO of IBM since April 2020 and chairman since January 2021. Krishna began his career at IBM in 1990, at its Thomas J. Watson Research Center, and was promoted to senior vice president in 2015, managing IBM Cloud & Cognitive Software and IBM Research divisions. He was a principal architect of the acquisition of Red Hat, the largest acquisition in the company’s history.

Atmanirbhar Bharat, which translates to 'self-reliant India', is a phrase the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and his government used and popularised in relation to the country's economic development plans. The phrase is an umbrella concept for the Modi government's plans for India to play a larger role in the world economy, and for it to become more efficient, competitive and resilient.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sixteenth Finance Commission</span>

Sixteenth Finance Commission is the Finance Commission constituted by the Government of India under Article 280 of Constitution. Arvind Panagariya has been appointed as the Chief of the Commission with the main task of determining revenue sharing between Central Government and State Government for a period of five years from April 1, 2026.
