Spain competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from August 13 to 29, 2004. This nation has competed in every Summer Olympic Games since its official debut in 1920. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, was the fifth Olympic Championship, also serving as the tenth World Championships and the 21st European Championships.

The 1962–63 NHL season was the 46th season of the National Hockey League. Six teams each played 70 games. The Toronto Maple Leafs won their second Stanley Cup in a row as they defeated the Detroit Red Wings four games to one.

The Great Britain men's national ice hockey team is the national ice hockey team that represents the United Kingdom. A founding member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 1908, the team is controlled by Ice Hockey UK.

Garry Young was a professional ice hockey coach and executive. He was head coach and general manager for the California Golden Seals and head coach for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League.

Albert I. Prettyman was a coach and athletic administrator at Hamilton College. During his coaching career he was head coach of many sports including basketball, track and field and football, but the majority of for his coaching work was in ice hockey. When he died the American Hockey Coaches Association called him "the father of college hockey." He was also director/coach of the 1936 USA Winter Olympics hockey team, winning the bronze medal. Prettyman was a member of two Olympic Committees and the founder, and lasting member of, the NCAA Hockey Rules Committee.

The 1924 Winter Olympics ice hockey rosters consisted of 82 players on 8 national ice hockey teams. Played at the first edition of the Winter Olympics, it was also considered to be the World Championship by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the second overall. Teams were required to be strictly amateur, so players from the Canadian-based National Hockey League (NHL) or other professional leagues were excluded. Canada sent the Toronto Granites, who had won the 1923 Allan Cup, the amateur championship in Canada.
