Igor Gorgan (born 2 August 1969) is a Moldovan military officer who served as the Chief of the General Staff of Moldova. [1]
He was born on 2 August 1969 in Dubăsari. At the age of 18,he joined the Soviet Army,immediately attending the Combined Arms Higher Military School in Novosibirsk until 1991. Upon graduation,he immediately took up a position in an airborne division in Bolgrad,Ukraine. From 1992 to 1995,he was the commander of a guard company in the Ștefan cel Mare 2nd Motorized Infantry Brigade. From 2001 to 2002,he was a student at the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. Beginning in 2003,he took part in NATO-led international missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina,Georgia and Iraq. After he returned to Moldova in 2006,he became an official in the training directorate. In 2013,he was appointed by President Timofti to the post of Chief of National Army General Staff. His dismissal would be the result of an ongoing feud with Defence Minister Anatol Șalaru. [2] Upon his dismissal,he became an aide to defense ministers Eugen Sturza and Anatol Șalaru. From 2018 to 2019,he was Chief of Strategic Studies at the Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy. On 1 July 2019,days after the national constitutional crisis and the appointment of the Sandu Cabinet,he was made the Chief of the General Staff by President Igor Dodon,replacing Igor Cutie. According to Russian media, [7] Igor Gorgan was recruited by the Russian GRU and served as an informant from 2004 to 2024. Despite officially not working for the Defense Ministry,he had multiple officers reporting to him and was very active after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Gorgan was stripped of his rank and medals after news of his spying came out. [8] He was charged with treason by Moldovan authorities on 19 September 2024. [9]

Russian support for the self-proclaimed Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria) and a substantial Russian military presence therein strained Moldovan relations with Russia.

The Presidential Band of the Republic of Moldova is an artist collective and the senior most military band of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova,specifically serving the President of Moldova in his/her position as commander in chief. The band plays at welcome ceremonies of foreign officials on state visits,ceremonies of national importance,military parades,the accreditation ceremonies for ambassadors to Moldova,and various community events. The current commander of the band is Lieutenant Colonel Leonid Vozniuc,who is the director of all the military bands in the armed forces. The band,which currently consists of 110 musicians,has performed in international festivals and military tattoos in Germany,Russia,Belgium and Romania.

To be eligible for the honor guard,one should be at least 185 cm,have strong health,and have a pleasant appearance.

He was also the Defense and National Security Advisor to former president Igor Dodon. He is currently the chairman of the Union of Officers of Moldova and was also the secretary of the Supreme Security Council.
Pavel Voicu is a Moldovan politician who was the Minister of Defence of Moldova in the Sandu Cabinet and the Interior Minister under President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Ion Chicu. He was also a personal advisor to Dodon. He has prior experience in Moldovan law enforcement.
The Supreme Security Council (SSC) (Romanian:Consiliul Suprem de Securitate,CSS) is an advisory body to the President of Moldova (concurrently the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Moldovan Armed Forces) which aides and assists the President in the implementation of military policy and national security decisions. The Day of the Liberation of Moldova from Fascist Occupation is a public holiday celebrated annually in Moldova to commemorates the anniversary of the allied victory in the Second Jassy–Kishinev Offensive during World War II. It is celebrated on 24 August and is also associated with the former Liberation from Fascist Occupation Day and the present day European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism in Romania. It is used to commemorate Moldova's role in the defeat of from Nazi Germany in 1945. It is also recognized by the internationally unrecognized Transnistria.
The Center for Culture and Military History is an institution of the Moldovan National Army under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense. Founded on 18 August 2011,its mission is to develop fundamental investigation into Moldovan military history. It has cooperated with foreign historical institutions such as the Romanian National Military Archives and the NATO Information and Documentation Centre. In February 2017,the book Homage and Gratitude,which was in memory of those who fell in the Transnistria War,was unveiled at the center. It has also played host to multiple events,including the first meeting of the National Council for War Veterans Affairs in 2020 and the meeting of Moldovan alumni of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in 2015. It is currently under the leadership of its director,Colonel Alexandru Chirilenco,who was appointed by President Igor Dodon in December 2019. One of its former directors,Colonel Vitalie Ciobanu,was the founded of the magazine "Cohorta",the first and only military publication of Moldovan military history.
