The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is the code department of the Illinois state government that operates the adult state prison system. The IDOC is led by a director appointed by the Governor of Illinois, and its headquarters are in Springfield.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture is the code department of the Illinois state government that regulates various facets of the agriculture industries of Illinois, oversees Illinois soil and water conservation, supervises the weights and measures of various commodity products, including gasoline, and supervises the Illinois State Fair. Agriculture industries that are supervised include the production of livestock, the growing of commodity crops such as corn and soybeans, and the regulation of grain elevators.
The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) is the department of the Illinois state government responsible for providing a wide variety of safety net services to Illinois residents in poverty, who are facing other economic challenges, or who have any of a variety of disabilities. As of 2006, it was the largest administrative agency of the state of Illinois in terms of state employee headcount, with 14,057 employees.
The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) is the department of the Illinois state government that assists veterans and their families in navigating the system of federal state and local resources and benefits, provides long-term health care for eligible veterans, and helps veterans address education, mental health, housing, employment, and other challenges.

The Illinois Department on Aging is the code department of the Illinois state government that exercises, administers, and enforces all rights, powers, and duties vested in it by the Illinois Act on the Aging.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is the code department of the Illinois state government responsible for child protective services. As of June 2014, Bobbie Gregg was the acting Director of Children and Family Services.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is the code department of the Illinois state government that administers state unemployment benefits, runs the employment service and Illinois Job Bank, and publishes labor market information. As of 12 January 2015, Jeffrey D. Mays was the Director of Employment Security.
The Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) is the code department of the Illinois state government that administers the Illinois Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination with respect to employment, financial credit, public accommodations and real estate transactions on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, military status, age, order of protection status, marital status, sexual orientation, unfavorable military discharge and physical and mental disability, and also prohibits sexual harassment in education, discrimination because of citizenship status and arrest record in employment, and discrimination based on familial status in real estate transactions. As of January 2019, Jim Bennett is the Director of Human Rights.
Elections were held in Illinois on Tuesday, November 6, 1990. Primaries were held on March 20, 1990.
