The Illinois Fighting Illini baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, Illinois, United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and are members of the Big Ten Conference.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">North Star Conference</span>

The North Star Conference or NSC was a women's conference in the NCAA. The conference existed from the 1983–84 school year through the 1991–92 school year. Originally announced in 1983, the conference was formed by charter members Butler, Dayton, DePaul, Detroit, Evansville, Loyola (Chicago), Notre Dame, and Xavier. Although the conference was to offer competition in cross country, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball, the conference was created primarily as a basketball conference. With the exception of Butler and Dayton, all charter members' women's basketball teams were already competing at the NCAA Division I level; Butler and Dayton upgraded their teams from NCAA Division II and commenced competition in the conference's second season. The conference was effectively absorbed by the Mid-Continent Conference, as six of its final seven members moved their women's sports to that organization.

James Kevin Smith is a former American football running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Raiders, the Washington Redskins, and the Minnesota Vikings. He was drafted by Washington in the fourth round of the 1984 NFL Draft. He played high school football in Kankakee, Illinois at Westview High School there before the merging of Westview and Eastridge High.

Kaiser was a two-time All-American player at Georgia Tech and won four NAIA national championships as a coach at West Georgia College and Life University. Kaiser was the athletic director at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy in Marietta, Georgia until his retirement in 2014.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's soccer team represents the University of Notre Dame in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I men's soccer. The team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference and is currently coached by Chad Riley. The team has made twenty four appearances in the NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament with the most recent coming in 2023. The Fighting Irish won the 2013 national championship.

The St. John's Red Storm men's soccer team represents St. John's University in New York City, New York in all in NCAA Division I soccer competitions. They compete in the Big East Conference and have experienced consistent success in both conference and national competitions. From 1992 to 2013, the Red Storm went to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament in 20 of 22 seasons, with four appearances in the College Cup semifinals and two appearances in the final, winning the national championship in 1996. The team posted 27 consecutive seasons with a win percentage of .500 or better from 1987 to 2013 before suffering three consecutive losing seasons from 2014 to 2016.

The Midwestern Conference, alternatively Conference of Midwestern Universities, was a college athletic conference which operated in Illinois and Indiana from 1970 to 1972. It was composed of schools which had recently moved from Division II to Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The conference sponsored only men's sports; awarding championships in baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, swimming, tennis, indoor & outdoor track and field, and wrestling.

Fletcher Lane was an American college basketball coach for the University of Illinois from 1907 to 1908. Lane coached the Fighting Illini to a record of 20–6 with a Western Conference record of 6–5. Even though he led his team to a positive record, the university, as well as the athletes, deemed Lane's coaching style as subpar. Lane's team benefited from a long Southern trip in which the team beat several YMCA and club teams from Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, and Georgia.

Howard J. Braun was an American college basketball assistant coach for the University of Illinois from 1937 to 1967. Braun graduated from the University of Illinois in 1936. He won six varsity letters in tennis and basketball and was a member of the "I" Men's Club.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer tournament</span>

The Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer tournament is the conference championship tournament in soccer for the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The tournament has been held every year since the MVC began men's soccer competition in 1991. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season conference records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I men's soccer championship.

Jack Thomas Stallings was an American college baseball head coach. He was the head coach of Wake Forest University, Florida State University, and Georgia Southern University. He also helped manage the United States national baseball team in 1970 and 1973 and was an administrator for the 1984 US Olympic Team and the 1988 US Olympic Team. With over 1,200 games won as a head coach, he ranks 28th all-time with the most wins by any Division I coach, with his 859–582–5 tenure at Georgia Southern being a record for most wins and games coached. His #1 jersey is retired by the program.

The 2016 Illinois Fighting Illini football team represented the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by first-year head coach Lovie Smith and played their home games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois. They were members of the West Division of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 3–9, 2–7 in Big Ten play to finish in sixth place in the West Division.

Jeffrey Allen Thompson is an American artistic gymnastics coach. Coaching for thirty years, he has worked extensively on the NCAA collegiate scene but has also worked within club gymnastics. After holding assistant coach positions at Wisconsin-Madison, Illinois and Louisiana State for ten years, Thompson was appointed the head coach of the Auburn Tigers women's gymnastics program for the incoming 2000 season. He spent eleven seasons at Auburn, leading the Tigers to seven consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.
