India won three gold, seven silver and 23 bronze to finish a commendable 10th in the 2009 Asian Martial Arts Games . For India, all the three gold were won by women and two came in kurash, a form of upright jacket wrestling originated in Uzbekistan.

Shally Manral gave India their first gold in the women's 52 kg half-weight category in kurash, while Laxmi Tyagi scored second in the 52 kg low kick kick-boxing. Jaya Chaudhary rounded off India's campaign with a gold in the women's 72 kg half-heavy division in kurash to help the side finish in the top 10 bracket.

Kurash refers to a number of folk wrestling styles practiced in Central Asia. The English name comes from the term for "wrestling" in some Turkic language.

2011 World Aquatics Championships 2011 edition of the World Aquatics Championships

The 14th FINA World Championships were held on 16–31 July 2011 in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. The 2011 World Championships featured five aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming. At this championships, synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko, of Russia, was the most decorated competitor winning all six gold medals of her events, at solo, duet and team routines. These championships served as qualifying stages for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Bahri Tanrıkulu is a Turkish taekwondo practitioner, who competed in the Men's 80 kg division at the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens, Greece and won the silver medal. He studied at Akdeniz University.

Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics

Canada, represented by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, from August 8 to 24, 2008. Canadian athletes had competed in every Summer Olympic Games since 1900 with the exception of 1980, which were boycotted in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Canada sent 332 athletes in 25 sports, the seventh largest team at the games and Canada's largest since 1988. Canada did not send a team in handball, volleyball or basketball. Kayaker and 2004 Summer Olympics gold medalist Adam van Koeverden was the flag bearer at the opening ceremonies; Karen Cockburn bore the flag at the closing.

United States at the 2008 Summer Paralympics

The United States sent a delegation to compete at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. A total of 213 U.S. competitors took part in 18 sports; the only 2 sports Americans did not compete in were soccer 5-a-side and 7-a-side. The American delegation included 16 former members of the U.S. military, including 3 veterans of the Iraq War. Among them were shot putter Scott Winkler, who was paralyzed in an accident in Iraq, and swimmer Melissa Stockwell, a former United States Army officer who lost her left leg to a roadside bomb in the war.

Egypt at the 2000 Summer Paralympics

Egypt sent a delegation to compete at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. Egyptian athletes won six gold medals, twelve silver and ten bronze, enabling their country to finish 23rd out of 123 on the medal table. Athletics and powerlifting were equally successful, with each sport giving 3 gold medals each to Egypt.

Michał Głogowski is a Polish welterweight kickboxer fighting out of Siedlce for TKKF Siedlce. He is a one time world pro and two time European amateur kickboxing champion and K-1 Europe MAX 2008 in Poland runner up currently competing in K-1 MAX.

Lauriane Rougeau Canadian ice hockey player

Lauriane Rougeau is a Canadian ice hockey player in her second stint with the CWHL's Les Canadiennes de Montreal. A former All-America selection for the Cornell Big Red women's ice hockey program, Rougeau was part of the Stars team that captured the inaugural Clarkson Cup in 2009. Competing in Ice hockey at the 2014 Winter Olympics, she was part of Canada's gold medal triumph. Having also earned a gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship, she is among a rare group of Canadian female hockey players that have won the Clarkson Cup, IIHF World Gold and Winter Games gold.

W.A.K.O. World Championships 2007 (Belgrade)

W.A.K.O. World Championships 2007 in Belgrade were the joint 16th edition of the W.A.K.O. world championships - the second event would be held later that year in Coimbra, Portugal. They were for amateur male and female kickboxers and covered the following categories; K-1, Low-Kick and Light-Contact. Weight classes for men ranged from light bantamweight to super heavyweight, while the women's ranged from featherweight to super heavyweight. More information on the categories, weight classes and rules is provided in the various sections below. In total there were 1085 athletes at the championships, representing sixty countries including China, fighting in 49 tournaments. The Belgrade championships were held at the Pionir Hall in Belgrade, Serbia from Monday, September 24 to Monday, October 1, 2007.

W.A.K.O. World Championships 2005 (Agadir)

W.A.K.O. World Championships 2005 in Agadir were the joint fifteenth world championships held by the W.A.K.O. organization and the first ever to be held in Morocco and the continent of Africa - with the other event to be held later that year in Szeged, Hungary. The championships were open to amateur men and women from across the world, with about roughly 48 countries providing around 350 athletes, who all attended despite initial fears about potential terrorist attacks.

Karen Chammas is a Lebanese judoka. Chammas competed at the Singapore 2010 Youth Games and was placed 7th worldwide, Continental Championships U20, and the 2012 Olympic Games where she tied for last place as she was defeated in the first round. She won silver and bronze medals at the 2011 Pan Arab Games.

Artem Olegovich Vakhitov is a Russian Muay Thai kickboxer who competes in the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. Having begun practicing Muay Thai at eleven years old, Vakhitov first came to prominence due to a successful amateur career by winning four IFMA European and three world championships as well as taking silver at the World Combat Games in 2010 and gold in 2013. He turned professional in 2009, and signed with Glory in 2013 after becoming the WMC European Super Light Heavyweight Champion. As of 1 August 2020, he is ranked the #1 light-heavyweight in the world by Combat Press. Vakhitov is the current Glory Light Heavyweight Champion.

Farinaz Lari is an Iranian kickboxer. She was the first Iranian woman to win the World Kickboxing Championships. She is currently the 52 kg World Number Five ranked contender in K-1 Rules WAKO as of November 2017.

India at the 2016 Asian Beach Games

India competed at the 2016 Asian Beach Games held in Danang, Vietnam from 24 September to 3 October 2016. The Indian Olympic Association sent a larger contingent than previous game as 208 athletes participated in 13 different games at the fifth edition of beach games. India finished at 16th position, winning 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 18 Bronze medals.

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the XVIII Asiad, is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It was held at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia between 18 August – 2 September 2018, with 465 events in 40 sports and disciplines featured in the Games. This resulted in 465 medal sets being distributed.

Gulnor Sulaymanova is an Uzbekistani female kurash practitioner. She is a gold medalist at the 2017 Kurash World Championship which was held in Istanbul.

The women's Kurash 52 kilograms competition at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia was held on 28 August at the JCC Assembly Hall.

Elyas Ali Akbari Iranian Judoka and Kurash player

Elyas Ali Akbari is an Iranian Kurash player and gold medalist in various international tournaments. The -81kg athlete won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia as well as two gold medals at the Asian Championships in Pune, India and VII International Kurash Tournament in Shahrisabz, Uzbekistan. IKA (International Kurash Association) named Ali Akbari as Best Kurash player of the world in 2018.
