It Hugs Back (stylized as it hugs back) is an English indie rock and dream pop band featuring Wire guitarist Matthew Simms. [3]

History

Schoolmates guitarist Matthew Simms and bassist Paul Michael formed their first band at age twelve. [4] Keyboardist/guitarist Jack Theedom and drummer Will Blackaby joined the band after all four graduated from university. [2]

Their debut album, Inside Your Guitar, was released in 2009 [5] [6] on 4AD. [7] Their second album, Laughing Party, was released in 2012 on Safe and Sound. [2] Recommended Record followed in 2013 [3] and Slow Wave, their most recent album, was released in 2015. [8]

Taking influence from such pop punk acts as Blink-182, Saves the Day, and Taking Back Sunday, Man Overboard played a brand of upbeat and poppy pop punk with the emotion of 90s emo acts such as The Promise Ring.
