Ivy Rahman Swimming Pool is Bangladesh's first swimming sports organizing and training swimming pool. [1] Built in the 1970s, the sports facility belongs to the Bangabandhu National Stadium Complex in Paltan, Dhaka. It is one of the three swimming pools located in Dhaka city. It is affiliated to the National Sports Council, like the official venues for all swimming sports events in Bangladesh. [2] Bangladesh Swimming Federation maintains the pool. [3] Its current name is posthumously named after Ivy Rahman. [4]

Events

Ivy Rahman Swimming Pool is the venue for various swimming competitions. [5] Bangladesh Swimming Federation conducts swimming training workshops here. [1] The pool is also used for training by private enterprises. [6]

Structure

It is an open-air swimming pool with 8 lanes. On both sides of the pool there are 5 tiered galleries with a capacity of thousands of visitors. [3]

Shankharibazar massacre was a massacre of over 212 Bengali Hindus in the Shankharibazar area of Old Dhaka in East Pakistan on 26 March 1971 by the Pakistani occupation army. The survivors fled to the villages on the other side of the Buriganga, in the region now known as Keraniganj. Shankharibazar became deserted and dead bodies remained on the streets for quite a long time. The Pakistani establishment renamed the Shankharibazar Road to Tikka Khan Road.

Nilphamari International Stadium or Nilphamari District Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Nilphamari, Bangladesh which is mainly used for domestic and international football. It is located on the opposite of Nilphamari Government College and is occasionally used for national day parade and handball games. The stadium, built in 1984, took on a new look after huge renovation works were completed in 2018 with approximately Taka 14 crore being spent on building up nearly 750 square-feet of gallery, a new VIP stand, earth filling, and planting fresh grass among other tasks. The seating capacity of the stadium has been subsequently increased to 20,000. Like other public stadiums, this venue is also owned by National Sports Council (NSC) of Bangladesh, and managed by District Sports Association of Nilphamari. This is the 14th venue used for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches.

The 2nd Bangladesh National Film Awards was presented by Ministry of Information to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema censored in the year 1976. It was the second ceremony of National Film Awards. It is the main swimming venue in Bangladesh and the third venue within Dhaka city, It is affiliated to the National Sports Council, like the official venues for all swimming sports events in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Swimming Federation maintains the pool. The pool is posthumously named after Syed Nazrul Islam. Due to its location, the facility is known as Mirpur Swimming Complex.
