American International University-Bangladesh [lower-alpha 1] commonly known by its acronym AIUB, is a private university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. [8] [9] This university was established in 1994. [10] [11] It offers several degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels from its four faculties. [12]
The university was established in 1994 in Dhaka, Bangladesh [13] as AMA International University Bangladesh, a joint venture between AMA Computer University of the Philippines, and local initiator Anwarul Abedin. [14] [15] [16] First campus of this university was in Mohakhali, then it shifted to Banani. Regular academic classes started in 1995. AMA Computer University later left the partnership, and in 2001 the university was renamed American International University-Bangladesh. [17] In 2017, AUIB moved to its permanent campus at Kuratoli Road, Kuril, Khilkhet, Dhaka. [18] As the university grew, it increased the number of programs and introduced master's degrees. [19]
The university's campus is located in an urban setting at Kuratoli, Kuril in Dhaka. The campus area is about 30 acres (12 ha). [7] There is a total building area of 1,300,000 square feet (120,000 m2). [20] [21] The university campus is known for having a glass-covered central globe structured building. [22] [23]
Each applicant has to pass the competitive admission test administered by the university. [24] [25] In the admission test, university judges applicant for their knowledge of math, English and other subjects. There are two parts of admission exam written and viva. Student have to pass both individually. Admission Procedure for International Students requires TOEFL/IELTS/GRE/GMAT/SAT scores (as applicable) for all applicants, except those from countries where English is the only official language, as evidence of adequate proficiency in English. The minimum acceptable score for TOEFL and GMAT/GRE is 550 and for SAT it is 1650. [26]
The medium of instruction of all academic programs at AIUB is English. The academic year of the university incorporates two regular semesters (Fall and Spring). [27] The Summer semester is an optional summer semester at AIUB. The duration of each regular semester is 17 weeks and 10 weeks for the optional summer semester. The academic year starts from Fall semester. [28]
The academic programs are divided among the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Science and Technology. [29] All the faculties offer both undergraduate and graduate level studies. AIUB is the official education partner of Bangladesh Cricket Board [30] [3] [31] and Bangladesh Football Federation. [32] [4]
AIUB updated its grading system in February 2017 for the second time. [33] The New Grading System will be applicable for those students who have enrolled in Spring 2016-17 and later. Old Grading system will still be applicable for students who have enrolled in Fall 2016-17 and before. The letter grades indicating the quality of course work completed with their corresponding grade points. [34] Minimum CGPA requirement for graduation in any undergraduate and graduate program at AIUB is 2.50. [35] The scholarship program at AIUB is open for both incoming and continuing students with at least one year of residency. [28] It covers full or partial tuition fee waiver. Incoming students qualify by passing the competitive examinations while weighted average CGPA for the previous year of 3.75 with no grade lower than B and no F, I, W, UW grades no disciplinary records. The number of awards is dependent on the slots available. AIUB authority also provide financial aids for deserving students. AIUB also offers 100% scholarship for only the son and daughter of Freedom Fighter (they should maintain CGPA 3.50).
The first convocation of the university was held in 2001 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon. Since then, convocations have been held in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2023. Starting in 2018, the university's convocation was held at its permanent campus. [40] As of 2023, a total of 36,911 graduates had graduated from the university in 21 convocations. [41] [42]

In the research arena, AIUB has internal academic journals: AIUB Journal of Science and Engineering (AJSE) ( ISSN 1608-3679) and AIUB Journal of Business and Economics (AJBE), ( ISSN 1683-8742). Since the first publication in 2002, three issues per year have been published regularly. AJSE is now a formally Scopus indexed journal, [43] and Scimago Ranked Q4 Journal. [44] AIUB is also the first institute in Bangladesh to launch an online working paper series named AIUB Bus Econ Working Paper Series, [45] which collaborated with the RePEc [46] and EconPapers. [47]
AIUB is one of the only eight universities from Bangladesh who have participated in the maximum level of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) commonly known as ACM ICPC World Final. [48] In 2001, AIUB qualified for the world final through Wild Card by securing second place in ACM ICPC Kanpur Site regional. [49] The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) looks after the extra curricular activities of the student community through many student organizations and clubs. [50] [51]

St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, also known as SJC, is a Catholic higher secondary school in Asad Gate, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh, regarded as one of the best colleges in Bangladesh. In 2023, St. Joseph was one of seven colleges awarded the 'A+' grade. It is a school offering education from third to twelfth grade, with pupils averaging 8 to 18 years of age. ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest is an annual multi-tiered competition among the universities of the world. There are eighteen different sites in Asia that host Asia Regional Final and Dhaka is one of them. Each year the winner of the Asia Regional Final Dhaka Site Contest advances to the ACM-ICPC World Finals. Like other sites of ICPC, Dhaka site contest is also sponsored by IBM and operated under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

He is a prominent problemsetter of UVa Online Judge. He is a judge of ACM-ICPC World Finals 2003–2018 and chief judge of National Programming Contest 2003 & 2004. In 1997, by becoming VC of AIUB, she became the first female vice chancellor of a university in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ মেরিটাইম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in 2013, the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3 January 2017 at the university's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the university. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. LLB in Maritime Law and BBA in Port Management and Logistics. 2020 BSc in Maritime Fisheries first batch admission and classes start.
