Jacqueline (Jackie) Taylor MBE FRCP is a Scottish physician and Professor at the University of Glasgow. She is the former President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Cardiovascular Section of the British Geriatrics Society. She was elected a Member of the British Empire in the 2023 New Year Honours.

Early life and education

Taylor studied medicine at the University of Glasgow Medical School. She specialised in heart failure.[ citation needed ]

Research and career

Taylor was made a consultant for medicine at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1997. [1] She specialised in medicine for the elderly. [2] Here she developed the stroke service and heart failure clinic. In 2018 Taylor was elected President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, [2] and led the college throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] [4] She was the first woman to hold such a position, and emphasised the need for hospitals to listen to consultant advice to optimise patient care. [5] [6] Even prior to the pandemic, Taylor explained that doctors were struggling under considerable pressures at work. [7] [8] She formed a partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Arab Republic of Egypt to enhance medical and dental care in Egypt. [9]

After 38 years of service, Taylor retired from the National Health Service in 2021. [1] She was made Chair of the Scottish Government National Audiology Review in 2022. [10] In this capacity she looked to improve audiology services across Scotland. [10]

He was Warden and Vice-Chancellor of Durham University from 1998 to 2006 before becoming Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. He held the position of Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute from 2008 until 2011. From 2008 to 2009, he was convener of the Calman Commission on Scottish devolution.

Eve Cordelia Johnstone CBE FRCP FRCPE FRCPGla FRCPsych FMedSci FRSE is a Scottish physician, clinical researcher, psychiatrist and academic. Her main research area is in the field of schizophrenia and psychotic illness. She is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Assistant Principal for Mental Health Research Development and Public Understanding of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. She is best known for her 1976 groundbreaking study that showed brain abnormalities in schizophrenic patients compared to a control group.

The Royal College of Surgeons is an ancient college established in England to regulate the activity of surgeons. Derivative organisations survive in many present and former members of the Commonwealth. These organisations are now also responsible for training surgeons and setting their examinations.

John Menzies Campbell FRSE FDS RCSEd, DDS was a Scottish dentist and dental historian who became a collector of dental books, paintings and dental instruments. At the time of his death he had amassed what was regarded as one of the largest collections of dental memorabilia in the world. He bequeathed his picture and instrument collection to the museum of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) where it formed the Menzies Campbell Dental Museum, and is now known as the Menzies Campbell Collection. Dr Andrew Fergus Hewat FRSE was a Scottish physician involved with mental health. He donated the Fergus Hewat Cup to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, an annual golf championship.
