History

Early performances (1970-75)

The first performance of the medley was on The Ed Sullivan Show on May 10, 1970. This performance included number #1 singles I Want You Back, and ABC. The next variation was on The Flip Wilson Show on April 11, 1971. The medley would feature I Want You Back, ABC, and The Love You Save. [3] A special edition of this medley was performed for the Save the Children concert on September 30, 1972. It featured the two former songs and Michael Jackson's solo single I Wanna Be Where You Are.

The medley would return to I Want You Back, ABC, and The Love You Save in 1973 for The Jackson 5 World Tour. Another special edition was performed in 1974 (I Want You Back, ABC, I'll Be There, Ben, Daddy's Home, Never Can Say Goodbye, and The Love You Save) along with their 1973 single Get It Together. It once again returned to I Want You Back, ABC, and The Love You Save on The Moving Violation Tour in 1975. [4] They also made an appearance on Cher with differences in the medley. ('I Want You Back / I'll Be There / Never Can Say Goodbye / The Love You Save / Dancing Machine). [5]

Performances as the Jacksons (1979-1984)

The medley was consistently featured on the Destiny World Tour (1979-1980) as I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save and I'll Be There. This continued on their Triumph Tour in 1981. This changed for their Motown 25 performance which omitted ABC and added Never Can Say Goodbye after The Love You Save. On their Victory Tour the medley featured I Want You Back, The Love You Save, and I'll Be There.

Michael Jackson solo performances (1987-1997)

After leaving the Jacksons, at the end of the Victory Tour, Michael Jackson carried the medley with him onto his Bad (1987-89), Dangerous (1992-93), and HIStory (1996-97) tours.

30th Anniversary Concert reunion and This Is It (2001-2009)

The brothers reunited for the Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration in 2001. These concerts featured the brothers doing a special edition of the medley often referred to as the Jacksons Ultimate Medley. This medley featured Can You Feel It, ABC, The Love You Save, I'll Be There, I Want You Back, Dancing Machine, and Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground). The medley was supposed to be featured on Michael Jackson's This Is It concert residency but he died before these performances could take place.

Present-day (2012-present)

The four eldest Jackson brothers (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon) reunited in 2012 and 2013 for their Unity Tour and performed the medley as I Want You Back / ABC / The Love You Save / Never Can Say Goodbye. The medley currently (as of 2019) includes I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save, Dancing Machine, Never Can Say Goodbye, and I'll Be There
