Jackson William Smith (born 14 October 2001) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Grimsby Town on loan from EFL League One club Barnsley.
After playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Kettering Town, Smith moved on loan to Walsall in January 2023. [3] [4] The move was welcomed by Walsall's first-choice goalkeeper Owen Evans. [5] He made his debut on 29 April 2023, appearing as a half-time substitute for the injured Evans, and his performance was praised by manager Mat Sadler. [6]
He signed for Walsall on a permanent deal in July 2023. [7] He won the 'Young Player of the Year' award in the 2023–24 Walsall season after taking over from first choice goalkeeper Owen Evans. [8]
On 9 July 2024, Smith signed for League One club Barnsley on a four-year deal, with the option for a further year, for an undisclosed fee. [9]
On 1 October 2024, Smith signed for League Two side Grimsby Town on an initial emergency 7-day loan after the injury of both of Grimsby's senior goalkeepers. [10] The loan was extended by another 7 days on 8 October 2024, [11] and again on 15 October 2024, [12] and 22 October 2024. [13]
Jackson returned to Barnsley after his loan spell and on 25 February 2025 made his full debut in a 2–1 win over Northampton Town. [14]
On 10 October 2025, Smith joined National League club Rochdale on an emergency loan. [15]
On 20 December 2025, Smith returned to League Two club Grimsby Town on a seven-day emergency loan. [16] [17] This was later extended for a further seven days. [18]
