James Richard Studdert Redmayne (born 16 July 1979) is an English former first-class cricketer.
The son of Richard Redmayne,who is a businessman in corporate finance,and Patricia (née Burke),who runs a relocation business,he was born at Westminster in July 1979. [1] He was educated at Eton College,before going up to Trinity College,Oxford. [2] While studying at Oxford,Redmayne played first-class cricket. He made his debut for a combined Oxford Universities team against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 2000. He made two further first-class appearances for Oxford Universities in 2000,in addition to playing for Oxford University against Cambridge University in that years University Match. He didn't feature in first-class cricket in 2001,but did play twice in 2002,making an appearance each for Oxford UCCE against Northamptonshire, [notes 1] and for Oxford in The University Match. [3] In six first-class matches,Redmayne scored 245 runs at an average of 30.62,with a high score of 75 not out. [2]
After graduating from Oxford,Redmayne was employed as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs in London. He joined CVC Capital Partners in 2005,holding a number of positions within the company in London and then Hong Kong,where he was employed most recently as a senior managing director. He joined Searchlight Capital in June 2020. [4]
His brother is the actor Eddie Redmayne,while his paternal great-grandfather was Sir Richard Redmayne,a civil and mining engineer. [1]
Cambridge University Cricket Club, established in 1820, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club was recognised as holding first-class status until 2020. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket.
Cambridge UCCE had a good start to their 2005 first-class season, setting Essex a target of 270 to win, after declaring in their second innings on 255 for 4. They took 6 wickets in defending the total, although they lost to the county in the end. They then narrowly lost to Warwickshire before beating Yorkshire in their last game of the season against a first-class county. They also played two matches as Cambridge University against Oxford University, winning the one-day game, but falling by an innings and 213 runs in their final first-class game of the season.
The MCC University matches in 2005 are games played between the University Centre of Cricketing Excellence ("UCCEs") and first-class opposition. This is the first year the games are called "MCC" University matches, after the MCC announced a funding plan to support the development of student cricket.
