The 1920 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the VII Olympiad and commonly known as Antwerp 1920, were an international multi-sport event held in 1920 in Antwerp, Belgium.

Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held 29 July – 11 August 2012 at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in Weymouth. The 2012 sailing program consisted of a total of ten events. Eleven fleet races were scheduled off the coast at Weymouth Bay for each event, except for the 49er and the Elliott 6m classes. For the 49er class, a total of 16 races were scheduled. Of the 11 (16) races, 10 (15) were scheduled as opening races and the last one as medal race. For the Elliott 6m a series of match races was scheduled. The sailing was done on different types of courses.
Brígido Iriarte was a Venezuelan track and field athlete who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics. He competed in a wide variety of events, including the decathlon, men's athletics pentathlon, pole vault, long jump and javelin throw. He finished fourth in the 1955 Pan American Games decathlon, fifth in the javelin throw, and sixth in the pole vault. In the 1959 Pan American Games he finished sixth in the javelin throw and eighth in the pole vault.

Johannes Sebastian Polgar is a German sailor, who specialized in the multihull (Tornado) and keelboat Star) classes. Together with his partner Florian Spalteholz, he was named one of the country's top sailors in the mixed multihull catamaran for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in eighth place. After the Games, Polgar decided to move into the Star class and eventually shared a gold-medal victory with his partner Markus Koy at the 2010 Europeans in Viareggio, Italy. A member of North German Regatta Club, Polgar trained most of his competitive sailing career under the tutelage of his Norwegian-born personal coach Rigo de Nijs.
