Janet Petersen (born August 1,1970) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Iowa Senate representing the 18th District since January 2013. She previously served as the Senate Minority Leader and has previously represented the 64th district in the Iowa House of Representatives,between 2001 and 2013. She received her BA from the University of Northern Iowa and her MA from Drake University.
Petersen serves on several committees in the Iowa Senate –the Government Oversight,Judiciary,State Government and Ways &Means committees. She also serves as the ranking member of the Commerce Committee. Petersen served as state Senate minority leader after replacing Rob Hogg in October 2017. [1] She was the first woman to lead the Senate Democratic caucus.
Before her election to the state legislature,Petersen worked for the '92 Clinton-Gore campaign,the American Heart Association,and Strategic America,a marketing communications firm. [2]
Since becoming a politician,much of her private work has focused on making Iowa "the safest place in the nation to have a baby". In 2004,she helped launch a stillbirth registry project that brings in more than $2 million a year to find causes and cures of stillbirths. [2]

Steven Henning "Steve" Warnstadt was the Iowa State Senator from the 1st District. A Democrat,he served in the Iowa Senate from 2003 until 2011. He received his BA from Drake University and his MA from Temple University. He is serving as an adjunct instructor with Western Iowa Tech Community College and as an intelligence officer with the Iowa Army National Guard.
Joe M. Seng was the Iowa State Senator from the 45th District. A Democrat,he served in the Iowa Senate from 2003 until 2016. He received a DVM from Iowa State University and worked as a veterinarian in Davenport,running a veterinary clinic for low income families.

Dandekar previously served on the Iowa Association of School Boards,and as a board member of the Women in Public Policy,and the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy. On July 23,2013 Dandekar announced that she would be running for the U.S. Congress from the 1st congressional district;she lost in the primary to former state house speaker Pat Murphy,who himself lost to Rod Blum.
Beth Wessel-Kroeschell is an American politician who held the District 45 seat in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2005 to 2023. During the 2022 state legislative elections,she was redistricted to District 49.
Donovan Olson is a former Iowa State Representative from the 48th District. A Democrat,he served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2003 until 2011,when he lost re-election to Republican Chip Baltimore. He received his BA and MCRP from Iowa State University.
Jo Oldson is an American politician who served as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives for the 41st district. A Democrat,she served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2003 to 2023. Eddie Farnsworth is an American politician and a former Republican member of the Arizona State House of Representatives and Arizona State Senate. Farnsworth previously served in the House consecutively from January 10,2011 until January 14,2013 in the District 22 seat,in the District 12 seat from 2013 to 2019,and non-consecutively from January 2001 until January 2009 in the District 22 and District 30 seats. Farnsworth served in the State Senate representing District 12 from January 14,2019 to his retirement in 2021.
