Jean Stanfield is an American politician who served in the New Jersey Senate,representing the 8th Legislative District from 2022 to 2024. She previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly,representing the 8th Legislative District from 2020 to 2022. [2] Stanfield served as Sheriff of Burlington County from 2002 to 2019. [1]
First elected Sheriff in 2001,Stanfield was re-elected five times as Sheriff. [3] [4] On February 22,2019,she announced she would not run for a seventh term in 2019 and would resign as Sheriff on May 1 of that year. [5]
After the 8th District's Senator Dawn Addiego switched her party from Republican to Democrat in early 2019,one of the district's sitting Assemblyman Joe Howarth reportedly attempted to do the same. The Burlington County Republican Party dropped support for Howarth,choosing to instead support former Burlington County Sheriff Stanfield to run with incumbent Ryan Peters. [6] In the primary election Howarth heavily tied himself to President Donald Trump [7] and lost to Stanfield and Peters.
Stanfield,a resident of Westampton Township,and Peters faced off against Democrats Mark Natale and Gina LaPlaca in the general election. Peters and Stanfield won by a little over 1,100 votes. [8]
In the 2021 general election,Stanfield ran for the New Jersey State Senate against incumbent Democrat Dawn Addiego,who had long served in public office as a Republican but switched to the Democratic Party in January 2019. With two weeks left before election day,the race for the three seats in the legislature had already attracted $3 million in spending by the candidates and outside groups. [9] Stanfield narrowly defeated Addiego despite the latter’s 12-1 fundraising margin. [10] [11]
On January 11,2023,Stanfield announced that she would not be a candidate for reelection. [12]

Westampton is a township in Burlington County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census,the township's population was 9,121,an increase of 308 (+3.5%) from the 2010 census count of 8,813,which in turn reflected an increase of 1,596 (+22.1%) from the 7,217 counted in the 2000 census. The township,and all of Burlington County,is a part of the Philadelphia-Reading-Camden combined statistical area and the Delaware Valley.

Dawn Marie Addiego is an American politician who represented the New Jersey's 8th legislative district in the New Jersey Senate from 2010 to 2022. A member of the Democratic Party,she previously served in the General Assembly from January 8,2008 to November 22,2010 as a Republican. On November 15,2010,after Phil Haines was confirmed to serve on the New Jersey Superior Court for Burlington County,that county's Republican committee nominated and appointed Addiego to fill Haines's vacant seat until the June 2011 primary and the November 2011 general election.

Delany was selected to replace Dawn Addiego after she moved to the New Jersey Senate,and was sworn in on December 13,2010. He resigned on August 12,2011. Former Mount Laurel mayor Gerry Nardello was selected to fill out the remainder of his term,and Christopher J. Brown won the seat in the 2011 general election.
Holly T. Schepisi is an American lawyer,businesswoman,and Republican Party politician who is the New Jersey State Senator,representing the 39th legislative district. She previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly,from January 10,2012,until March 24,2021. She has served as Deputy Minority Leader since January 14,2020,and served as Assistant Minority Leader for two years before then. She resides in River Vale with her husband Paul Garfinkel and their two children. In March 2015,she suffered a brain aneurysm but fully recovered after surgery in the summer of 2015. On March 9,2021,she was chosen to succeed long-serving Senator Gerald Cardinale in the State Senate,who died in office. She was sworn in on March 25,2021.
Joseph Howarth Jr. is an American Republican Party politician who represented the 8th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since he was sworn into office on January 12,2016. Howarth lost re-election in the 2019 GOP primary. He left office on January 14,2020.
The 2017 New Jersey State Senate elections were held on November 7,2017,to elect Senators for all 40 legislative districts across New Jersey. These elections coincided with the election of Governor Phil Murphy. The winners of this election serve in the 218th New Jersey Legislature,with seats apportioned based on the 2010 United States census. The Democratic Party grew its majority in the Senate,with incumbent Senate President Steve Sweeney re-elected to the top leadership post. Republican Thomas Kean,Jr. continued to lead his party as Minority Leader. This was the first state Senate election cycle in 10 years where any party flipped a Senate seat.
Ryan E. Peters is an American Republican Party politician and lawyer who represented the 8th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2018 to 2022. He replaced Maria Rodriguez-Gregg,who did not run for re-election to the Assembly. Peters had previously served on the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders and served active duty as a Navy SEAL before running for office. Peters currently serves reserve duty as a SEAL.
