Jeffrey Lamar Burris (born June 6, 1972) is an American football coach and former professional football player who was a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons. He played college football for the University of Notre Dame, and was a consensus All-American. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft, and he played professionally for the Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL. Burris was the assistant defensive backs coach/defensive quality control coach for the Miami Dolphins. On October 8, 2015, Jeff Burris was promoted to assistant defensive backs coach for the Dolphins. On June 3, 2016, he was hired as a defensive analyst for his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame. [1]

Early years

Burris was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina. [2] He graduated from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, [3] where he played for the Northwestern Trojans high school football team.

College career

While attending the University of Notre Dame, Burris played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team from 1990 to 1993. He was the Irish's primary running back in their goal line jumbo package, rushing for 167 yards on 29 carries and 10 touchdowns and catching one pass for 3 yards and a touchdown. As a senior in 1993, he was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American as a defensive back.

Professional career

The Buffalo Bills selected Burris in the first round (27th pick overall) of the 1994 NFL Draft. [4] He played for the Bills from 1994 to 1997. [5]

In his ten-year career, Burris played in 144 regular season games, started 119 of them, compiling 529 tackles, and 19 interceptions for 302 return yards and two touchdowns. [5]

Coaching career

Burris began his coaching career in 2007 at Fishers High School in Fishers, IN, where he helped work on the technique of cornerbacks and safeties as well as installing a defensive scheme.

Burris joined the United Football League’s Sacramento Mountain Lions as the defensive backs coach in 2011, hired by former Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green. Burris stayed with the Mountain Lions through their 2011 campaign, finishing with a 2–3 record.

On March 5, 2012, Burris was announced as the cornerbacks coach for the UMass Minutemen, working under new head coach Charley Molnar. He coached the Minutemen for the 2012 season.

In 2013 it was announced that Burris would become the assistant defensive backs coach and defensive quality control coach for the Miami Dolphins.

In 2016, it was announced that he would join the Notre Dame football coaching staff as a defensive analyst. [1]

After leaving his alma mater, Burris spent the 2017 season coaching defensive backs at the Northern Iowa.

In the spring of 2018, Burris was hired by Skip Holtz as the Cornerbacks Coach at Louisiana Tech.

Samuel Adolphus Madison, Jr. is an American football coach and former cornerback who is the cornerbacks coach and pass game specialist for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the secondary/cornerbacks coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. He played college football at the University of Louisville, and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft. A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Madison also played for the New York Giants. He has won two Super Bowls, Super Bowl XLII as a player with the Giants and Super Bowl LIV as an assistant coach with the Chiefs.

Aaron Devone Glenn is an American football coach and former cornerback who is the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints from 2016 to 2020 and also served as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns.

The 2008 Miami Dolphins season was the franchise's 39th season in the National Football League (NFL), the 43rd overall and the first under new head coach Tony Sparano. During the regular season the Dolphins completed the greatest single-season turnaround in NFL history, going from a 1–15 regular season record in 2007 to an 11–5 record in 2008. The previous record for most improved team one year after a 1–15 season belonged to the 1997 New York Jets, who went 9–7. The 1999 Indianapolis Colts were the only other team to accomplish a 10-game turnaround, winning 13 games after winning 3 in 1998, which was also the first year of the Peyton Manning era. Additionally, Miami won the AFC East, becoming the first team in NFL history to win their division after only having one win the previous season. The division title also snapped the Patriots' 5-year streak of winning the AFC East. Their season would come to an end in the Wild Card round when they were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens, which coincidentally, was also the only team they beat last season in overtime to save the Dolphins from suffering a winless season. Mike Mickens is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cincinnati Bengals. He played college football at the University of Cincinnati. He is currently the cornerbacks' coach for the University of Notre Dame.
