Jeff Shafer

Jeff Shafer (Born February 20, 1975) is a former racing driver. Shafer competed in USF2000, Atlantic Championship among other series.

Career

Shafer started his racing career in karting. Shafer won the IKF Sprint Grand National. At Iowa International Raceway in Marshalltown, Iowa, Shafer won the Yamaha KT100S Heavy class.^[1]

Shafers first experience in autosport came at the Winfield Racing School in France. A strong performance earned him a scholarship for the 1996 Skip Barber championship. At Las Vegas Motor Speedway Shafer was one of two winners of the inaugural Team Green Academy Young American Driver Development Program, the other being Matt Sielsky.^[2] With Team KOOL Green Shafer competed in the 1997 U.S. F2000 National Championship. Racing the experimental Nemesis 97 chassis Shafer struggled in the opening rounds. His breakthrough came round five, at Phoenix International Raceway. On the road course configuration Shafer beat 35 other drivers winning the race.^[3] The championship rookie finished twelfth in the point championship. Teammate Sielsky finished second in the championship racing the dominant Van Diemen chassis.

For 1998 Shafer joined Duncan Dayton's Highcroft Racing. The team was also the importer of the Bowman BC5 F2000 chassis. Despite two top ten finishes, Shafer left the team after the second round. The American also ran a partial Atlantic Championship schedule. After testing with PPI Motorsports at Firebird Raceway and Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Shafer made his race debut at the Milwaukee Mile.^[4] Highlight of the season was his pole position at the Molson Indy Vancouver, in support of the 1998 Molson Indy Vancouver.^[5] During the races he was sponsored by the Derek Daly Academy. The racing school also support the driver for his Formula Palmer Audi campaign in Great Britain along with support from Jerry Forsythe. His best result was a fourth place at Mondello Park.^[6] Shafer placed 16th in the championship standings.^[7]

After his active racing career Shafer was lead instructor and general manager of Derek Daly Academy. He also was the lead engineer at Team Bucknam Racing for Brian Selby in the 2000 Star Mazda Championship. In 2007 Shafer founded Radical Ventures, organizing American championships for Radical Sportscars.^[8]

One Motorsports

IMSA Lites

In 2013 Shafer founded One Motorsports out of Las Vegas, Nevada. The team made its debut in the IMSA Lites championship in 2014. The team bought two Élan DP02 chassis, numbers 49 and 50 built.^[9] The team made its debut with John Falb and Tony Bullock. Bullock scored the first win for the team, at Kansas Speedway.^[10] Falb eventually finished highest in the standings, in fourth place. For 2015 the team finished third in the team standings as the team expanded to four cars.^[11] Gerhard Watzinger was the best performing One Motorsports driver in 2016 finishing eighth in the season standings. With the Élan DP02 being phased out after the 2018 season, One Motorsports scaled back to running two part-time entries in 2017, with drivers Dave House and Paul LaHaye. At Sebring in 2018, One Motorsports had its best results, with House finishing 1st in his Élan DP02, and LaHaye taking 2nd.

Radical Sportscars

As the west-coast based dealer for the British Radical Sportscars brand, One Motorsports competed the cars at various championships. Shafer previously competed with both Radical Ventures and Factory48 Motorsports in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Racing a Radical SR3 the team scored class wins in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.^[12] For 2014 Shafer's team competed with both a Radical SR3 and a Radical SR8. Colin Braun, Sean Rayhall and Shafer himself were among the drivers.^[13] The team finished second and third in the ESR class.^[14] Rayhall returned the following year, along with Shafer and John Falb. The team was disqualified after a breach of regulations during a pitstop.^[15] For 2016 the team finished third and fourth in the ESR class in the famous endurance race.^[16] In 2018 Shafer had two Radical SR3s entered under One Motorsports, the team finished first and third in the ESR class.

Dyson Racing is a professional sports car racing team based in Poughkeepsie, New York in the United States. Founded by Rob Dyson in 1974, the team competed successfully in North American sports car racing series, including the IMSA GT Championship and American Le Mans Series.

Colin Braun is an American racing driver. He is the 2014 and 2015 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype Challenge Champion and currently drives the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 for Meyer Shank Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the No. 04 CrowdStrike Mercedes AMG-GT3 in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Series. Driving the ARX-06, he was part of the winning team of the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona. He formerly competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the Xfinity Series. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Flying Lizard Motorsports group is a motorsport team from Sonoma, California, formed by Seth Neiman in early 2003. The team competed in the full American Le Mans Series season, as well as the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team went on to win six driver and team championships in the American Le Mans Series, becoming a Porsche factory team and Porsche Motorsport North America's development partner from 2007 to 2012. The team helped develop the first- and second-generation 997 GT3 RSR as well as bring it to victory several times in its six-year run in the series. Élan Motorsport Technologies is an American enterprise that serves as an umbrella company containing the race car engineering, development and manufacturing companies owned by American racing and automotive company conglomerate Panoz Motor Sports Group. Élan engineers, designs and builds Panoz-branded race cars and components, since its founding it has also acquired several manufacturers, including famous Formula Ford builders Van Diemen and IndyCar Series constructor G-Force. Dane Cameron is an American racing driver from Glen Ellen, California. He won the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship overall in 2016 and 2019, and also in the GTD class in 2014.

The 2014 IMSA Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) was the inaugural season of the International Motor Sports Association's new series created out of a merger of the Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series and the first to be held under the name as the Tudor United SportsCar Championship. It began with the 24 Hours of Daytona, the first time since the 1997 IMSA GT Championship season that IMSA sanctioned an event at Daytona International Speedway on 25 January and ended on 4 October at Petit Le Mans. It was the 44th overall season of IMSA GT championship racing tracing its lineage to the 1971 IMSA GT Championship.

The 2015 IMSA Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) was the second season of the International Motor Sports Association's Tudor United SportsCar Championship and last to be held under that name. It was also the 45th overall season of the IMSA GT championship tracing its lineage to the 1971 IMSA season. It began January 24 with the 24 Hours of Daytona. and ended on October 3 at Petit Le Mans.

8 Star Motorsports LLC is a sports car racing team founded by racing driver Enzo Potolicchio in 2012. The team currently races in the United SportsCar Championship PC class and the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites L1.

Sean Rayhall is a racing driver. He competed in the LMP3 class of the European Le Mans Series, winning the championship in 2017. He has also previously raced in the GT Daytona class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, in addition to stock cars and formula cars, where in the latter, he earned a test opportunity with Chip Ganassi Racing.

The 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship was the third season of the United SportsCar Championship and first to be under the name as the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship organized by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). It was the 46th season of IMSA-sanctioned GT Championship sportscar racing tracing its lineage to the 1971 IMSA Camel GT season. It began on January 30 with the 24 Hours of Daytona. and ended on October 1 at Petit Le Mans.

The 55th Rolex 24 at Daytona was an International Motor Sports Association (IMSA)-sanctioned 24-hour automobile endurance race for prototype and grand touring sports cars held at the Daytona International Speedway combined road course in Daytona Beach, Florida from January 28 to 29, 2017. It was the first of twelve events in the 2017 IMSA SportsCar Championship, the 55th 24 Hours of Daytona, and the first in the four-round North American Endurance Cup.

The 2020 IMSA SportsCar Championship was the 50th racing season sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA). This was also the seventh United SportsCar Championship season and fifth under the name as the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The series began on January 25 with the 24 Hours of Daytona, and ended on November 14 with the 12 Hours of Sebring.

JDC–Miller MotorSports is a sports car racing team that currently competes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The team currently fields the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R full-time for Tristan Vautier and Richard Westbrook in the Daytona Prototype International class of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Additionally, JDC runs the No. 17 Unitronic/Liqui Moly Audi RS3 LMS TCR SEQ full-time for Chris Miller and Zikey Taylor in the Touring Car class.

Mason Filippi is an American auto racing driver who competes in the TCR class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge for Bryan Herta Autosport. He previously raced for Bryan Herta Autosport, finishing the Michelin Pilot Challenge in second place in 2019 and third in 2020. Filippi also piloted touring cars in the TC America Series and the Pirelli World Challenge from 2017 to 2019, finishing in the top five of the standings each season. Prior to racing touring cars, he drove Spec Miatas, competing in the Global MX-5 Cup and the Teen Mazda Challenge and winning the 25 Hours of Thunderhill race in 2015 and 2016.

Kyle Marcelli is a Canadian racing driver who currently competes in the Michelin Pilot Challenge.

DXDT Racing is a professional sports car team based in Statesville, North Carolina, founded by competitive off-shore sailor and businessman David Askew in 2014. With an early history in IMSA's Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, the team now primarily races in SRO America's GT World Challenge America, continuing a long term run as a Mercedes AMG Customer Racing team.
