Jens-Frederik Nielsen (born 22 June 1991) is a Greenlandic politician and badminton player. He is the current Prime Minister of Greenland and leader of the Demokraatit party,and formerly served as the Minister of Labour and Mineral Resources during the Kielsen VII Cabinet of 2020 to 2021. Nielsen is the first member of the Demokraatit party to hold the office of prime minister.
Nielsen was born and raised in Greenland. [1] His hometown is Nuuk. [1] He earned a degree in social science from University of Greenland. [1]
In 2020,Nielsen was elected to succeed Niels Thomsen as chair of the Demokraatit party. [2] He was reelected to the role in March 2024. [2]
In May 2020,Nielsen was named the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources as part of the Kielsen VII Cabinet. [3] [4]
At the 2023 Island Games,Nielsen won the men's singles badminton championship. [5]
During the 2025 Greenlandic general election,Nielsen received 4,850 personal votes. Nielsen received more votes than incumbent Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede,who received 3,276. [6]
In response to Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022,Nielsen urged Polar Seafood to halt its Russian operations,emphasizing the need to pressure Russia and restore peace in Europe. [7]
In March 2025,Nielsen condemned U.S. president Donald Trump's threats to invade Greenland. [8]
Nielsen advocates for reducing reliance on Denmark's block grant by prioritizing business development and economic self-sufficiency in Greenland. [1]
