Jessheim is a town in the Ullensaker municipality in Akershus of Norway.
The railway station with the Jessheim station was built in 1854 as part of the Hovedbanen line from Oslo to Eidsvoll. The railroad had at the initial construction of the railroad in 1854 called the stop "Trøgstad", but because of confusion with the town name Trøgstad in Østfold, the name was changed in 1897 to "Jessum". This name was used blasphemically, for example by military recruits who said they had passed through Bøn (town north of Jessheim) which sounds like "prayer" in Norwegian to Jessum, which could sound like Jesus. The priests in the area complained to the bishop who in 1900 brought the case up with the local council and suggested the form "Jessheim". The name was changed to "Jesseim". In 1920 the railroad changed the spelling to the current form, Jessheim.
Jessheim is a center for commerce and regional service functions at Øvre Romerike. The area also has some industry such as a concrete factory that utilizes the sand and gravel resources in the area as well as a wood products manufacturer. Jessheim Storsenter (mall) located in the center of town, is one of the biggest shopping malls in Norway. [1]
Jessheim is also home to Ullensaker Kulturhus which is a cultural center with a library and cinema. West of the town is the old royal burial mound Raknehaugen which dates back to between AD 533 and 551. [2] [3]
The name "Jessheim" is from Norse Jasseimr or Jesseímr where the first part has unknown origin, while the second part (heimr) means home. It is also possible that the first part "Jess" can mean jarl or jarls (earls). The name was originally used for the Hovin parish.
As at January 2020, Jessheim's population was estimated to be 21,598. [4]
Jessheim Station (Jessheim stasjon) is located on the main track of Norway's first railroad, completed in 1854, and formed the foundation for the later town. From Jessheim trains go north to Dal and south to Oslo. The E6 highway runs past on the west side of the town. Distance to Oslo is 41 km along this road, distance along the railroad is 45 km. Jessheim is also an important crossroad between Riksvei 35 westward to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen and Hønefoss, Riksvei 174 to Nannestad and Hurdal, and eastward to Kongsvinger (Riksvei 2). [5]
As of 2016 the local football (soccer) team Ullensaker/Kisa plays in the professional Norwegian First Division.
Akershus is a county in Norway, with Oslo as its administrative centre. Akershus has been a region in Eastern Norway with Oslo as its main city since the Middle Ages, and is named after the Akershus Fortress in Oslo and ultimately after the medieval farm Aker in Oslo. Ullensaker is a municipality in Akershus county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Romerike. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Jessheim. Kløfta is a town located in Ullensaker, Akershus, Norway. It has a population of 8,371 inhabitants as of December 12th, 2023. Kløfta has a growing sports team Kløfta IL which consists of football, handball, basketball, e-sports, table tennis, cycling and floorball. A large sports park has also been built in Bakkedalen. There are also a local shopping market locatede in Kløfta Romerikssenteret. Kløfta has three schools – a middle school and two first through seventh grade school, and several kindergartens.

The Romerike Tunnel is a 14.580-kilometre (9.060 mi) railway tunnel in Norway between Oslo and Lillestrøm. It is the second longest railway tunnel in Norway after the Blix Tunnel opened in 2022, and forms the first section of the Gardermoen Line. It is double track and electrified, permitting speeds of 210 kilometres per hour (130 mph).
Hauerseter–Gardermoen Line, previously also known as the Gardermoen Line, is an abandoned, 6.7-kilometer (4.2 mi) branch line in Ullensaker, Norway, which connected Hauerseter Station on the Trunk Line to Gardermoen Air Station. The line had three branches at Gardermoen, one of which led to Trandum.
Jessheim Station is a railway station at Jessheim which opened in 1854. It is 44.60 kilometers (27.71 mi) from Oslo Central Station and has an elevation of 203.8 meters (669 ft) above mean sea level. The station is part of Norway's first railway, the Trunk Line, which ran from Kristiania to Eidsvoll.

Romerike Police District was until 2016 one of 27 police districts in Norway, covering the Romerike district of Akershus. The district was headquartered in Lillestrøm and consisted of two police stations, at Lillestrøm and Gardermoen, and nine sheriff's offices. The district was led by Chief of Police Jørgen L. Høidahl. Specifically the police district covered the municipalities of Aurskog-Høland, Sørum, Fet, Rælingen, Lørenskog, Skedsmo, Nittedal, Gjerdrum, Ullensaker, Nes, Eidsvoll, Nannestad, Hurdal. As of 2011, the district had 651 employees. It has a special responsibility for the border control at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen.
Ullensaker Church is a church in Ullensaker, Norway, located 10 km (6.21 mi) southeast of Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. It is the fourth church that has been located almost there since the 12th century. The present church was built in concrete in 1958 and has been given the nickname "Romeriksdomen" locally because of its monumental character.
Lillestrøm is a town located some 18 km (11 mi) east-northeast of Oslo, the capital city of Norway. With a population of 14,379 inhabitants, it is the administrative centre of Lillestrøm Municipality in Akershus County, and lies within the traditional district of Romerike.
Romerike Folk High School is a freelance folk high school at Jessheim in Akershus. The school has approximately 105 students and is owned by Akershus county. Romerike has cultivated one discipline, theater and music. Each year, approximately 40-50 small and large performances, everything from concerts, the whole evening's theater pieces and smaller study projects. The biggest productions play 10-14 performances, usually twice a day. The students live in boarding houses.
