Jessica Gaudreault (born July 18, 1994) is a Canadian water polo goalkeeper. She won the silver medal with the Women's National Team at the 2015 Pan American Games and the 2019 Pan American Games [1]
Gaudreault was born on July 18, 1994, to Eric Gaudreault and AJ Tiwana in Mississauga, Ontario. She began playing water polo at 13 years old after not enjoying competitive swimming. [2] She grew up in Ottawa, Ontario having graduated from St. Joseph School in 2012. She plays for the Capital Wave Swimming and Water Polo Club in Ottawa.
Gaudreault attended Indiana University playing for Indiana Hoosiers. [3] She was named to the CWPA All-Conference First Team as a freshman and sophomore. [3] [4]
After a two year training period with the Canadian Women's Senior National Team, Gaudreault returned to Indiana in 2017 and utilized her final two years of eligibility. Gaudreault was named a Hoosier's Award Winner following the 2017 season, and All-American Honorable Mention in 2018. She completed her career ranked second in All-Time Career Saves (995) and in shots faced (2182). [5]
Gaudreault graduated from Indiana in 2018 with a Bachelor's in Human Biology and a minor in French.
Gaudreault has made multiple national team appearances since 2008, where she made her debut at the Junior Pan American Championships winning gold. She would wind gold again in 2010 at the same tournament. She would compete at the FINA Junior World Championship in 2011 finishing in 9th place. She would then compete on Canada's Youth Team for the FINA Youth World Championships in 2012 earning a 5th Place finish.
In 2013, Gaudreault would compete in the FISU Games finishing in 4th; later in the year she would compete for the Junior Team at the FINA Junior World Championships finishing in 9th place. Following her 2014 collegiate season, Gaudreault would compete on the Team Canada Senior Team finishing sixth at the FINA World League. In 2015, Team Canada finished 11th at the FINA World Championships; weeks later, Gaudreault would earn a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games.
In 2017 she won the silver medal at the 2017 FINA Women's Water Polo World League in Shanghai, China, being named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, also named to the media’s All-Star team. [6]
In 2018, Gaudreault would be the starting goalie for the 2018 FINA World League in Budapest finishing in fourth place, the highest in Team history. They would return to the FINA World League in 2019 finishing in 7th; [2] weeks later, Gaudreault would lead Team Canada to a Silver Medal finish at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru where Team Canada would earn a bid to the Olympics (Team USA had earned their bid by winning the World League). Brenda Villa is an American accomplished water polo player. She is the most decorated athlete in the world of women’s water polo. Villa was named Female Water Polo Player of the Decade for 2000-2009 by the FINA Aquatics World Magazine. She is one of four female players who competed in water polo at four Olympics; and one of two female athletes who won four Olympic medals in water polo. She is a leading goalscorer in Olympic water polo history, with 31 goals. In 2018, she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
Moriah van Norman is an American water polo player who has played for the University of Southern California and the National team, who won the Peter J. Cutino Award in 2004, recognized as the best female collegiate player in the nation. Her position is two-meter offense.
Erika Figge is a water polo player from the United States, playing as an attacker. She was a debutant at the US Women's Water Polo Team that won the silver medal at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montréal, Canada.
The Canada women's national water polo team represents Canada in women's international water polo competitions and friendly matches. The team is overseen by Water Polo Canada, a member of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA). In 1981 the team claimed its first international prize, winning the FINA Water Polo World Cup.
Elizabeth Anne "Betsey" Armstrong is an American water polo goalkeeper, who won gold medals with the United States women's national water polo team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2007 and 2011 Pan American Games, and 2007 and 2009 world championships. She is a leading goalkeeper in Olympic water polo history, with 102 saves. Armstrong attended Huron High School in Ann Arbor and was a three-year letterwinner on her water polo team. She then went on to graduate from the University of Michigan in 2005, where she was the goalkeeper for the women's water polo team. Betsey graduated with a bachelor's degree in English language and Literature. She is currently the record holder at University of Michigan with 350 saves.
Elsie Ann Windes is an American water polo player. After playing for the University of California, Berkeley, she joined the United States national team in 2006. She helped the U.S. win a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Glencora McGhie is an Australian water polo centre back/driver. She attended the Curtin University of Technology and is a dental therapist. She competes for the Fremantle Marlins in the Australian National Water Polo League, and was on sides that won the league championship in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007. She has been a member of the Australia women's national water polo team on the junior and senior level. She has won gold medals at the 2011 Canada Cup and at the 2007 FINA Junior World Championships. Holly Jane Young is an Australian former water polo player. Her sister is skeleton competitor Emma Lincoln-Smith. They are the first set of Australian siblings where one competed at the Summer Olympics and the other at the Winter Olympics.
Zoe Arancini is an Australian water polo player who plays driver, counter-attacker, or outside shooter. She plays club water polo in the National Water Polo League for the Fremantle Marlins, where she has won the league championship in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and is coached by her mother. She has represented the country as a member of the Australia women's national water polo team on the junior and senior level, with over eighty appearances for national team between the two levels. Kelsey Wakefield is an Australian water polo player. Wakefield has been a member of the Australia women's national water polo team at the junior starting in 2006 and senior level starting in 2009. She earned a silver medal at the 2010 FINA World League, a gold medal at the 2011 Canada Cup and a bronze medal at the 2011 FINA Junior World Championships. Wakefield won a championship as a member of the 2011 Brisbane Barracudas squad in the National Water Polo League. The 2017 FINA Women's Water Polo World League is the 14th edition of the annual women's international water polo tournament. It was played between November 2016 and June 2017 and open to all women's water polo national teams. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final from 06 to 11 June 2017.
