Jhora is a caste found in the states of Jharkhand, Chhatishgarh and Odisha in India. Their traditional occupation was fishing and boating. [1] [2]

History

The traditional occupation of Jhora caste was fishing, boating and farming. [1] They found in district of Simdega, Khunti, Jashpur, Sundargarh and Sambalpur. They used to participate in the battle with Rajput. The king of Biru in Simdega was of Jhora caste. [3]

Due to construction of Bridges in rivers and streams, now they have left the occupation of boating. Now they do farming and fishing for livelihoods. [1] [4] They are a neglected community. [2]

Social status

They are in the list of Other Backward Class in Jharkhand for reservation. [3] [5] [6]

Lal Ranvijay Nath Shahdeo, was a lawyer, poet, writer and political activist. He was a prominent leader of the movement for a separate Jharkhand state. He was president of the Jharkhand Party. He wrote several Nagpuri poems, songs and slogans for the Jharkhand movement. At the end, the Central government of India accepted to form a new state, Jharkhand. He changed the state name Vananchal to Jharkhand after a debate with Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was the recipient of the Jharkhand Ratna Award for his contribution to the movement for a separate state of Jharkhand.

Umesh Singh Kushwaha is a Former Member of Legislative Assembly in Bihar from Mahnar constituency. He is a member of Janata Dal (United). Kushwaha is the son of Vasudev Singh and hails from Kajri Bujurg village in the Vaishali district of Bihar. He studied at Acharya Narendra Dev College Shahpur Patori, Lalit Narayan Mithila University. Sarna is a place of worship in the Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. It is a sacred grove, where people of village gather to perform rituals in village festival.

The Turi is a caste found in the state of Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal in India. The traditionally involved in the manufacture of household items of bamboo and farming.

Nagpuri culture refers to the culture of the Nagpuria people, the native speakers of the Nagpuri language, which includes literature, festivals, folk song and dance. It is also referred to as the culture related to the Nagpuri language.

Lohra is a community found in Jharkhand. They are traditionally associated with works of iron smelting.

The Bhogta is an agricultural community, primarily inhabiting in the state of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. They speak Sadri language as mother tongue except Bhogta of West Bengal, who are adopted Bengali as mother tongue and use Hindi language as link language.
