Joana Sofia Barbosa Vasconcelos (born 22 February 1991) is a Portuguese sprint canoer who has competed since the 2010s. [1] At club level, she represents Benfica.

Born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Vasconcelos started canoeing in Clube Náutico de Crestuma, where she won the ICF Canoe Kayak Sprint Junior World Championships in K-1 1000m class that took place in Moscow in 2009. [2] The 18-year-old then moved to Benfica in 2010, and currently studies and practises at the Center for High Performance in Montemor-o-Velho. [3]
She won a bronze medal in the K-2 200 m event at the 2012 Canoe Sprint European Championships in Zagreb.
Vasconcelos qualified for London 2012 in K4 500, K2 500 and K2 200 in the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. In the 2012 Summer Olympics, she ended 6th in Women's K-2 500 metres race along Beatriz Gomes and also 6th in the Women's K-4 500 metres along with Teresa Portela, Helena Rodrigues and Beatriz Gomes. Canoe sprint is a water sport in which athletes race in specially designed sprint canoes or sprint kayaks on calm water over a short distance. Yvonne Schuring is an Austrian sprint canoer who competed in the late 2000s. Together with teammate Viktoria Schwarz, she competed in the K-2 500m event and they had the following notable results:
Dame Lisa Marie Carrington is a flatwater canoeist and New Zealand's most successful Olympian, having won a total of eight gold medals and one bronze medal. She won three consecutive gold medals in the Women's K‑1 200 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics, as well as gold in the same event at the 2011 Canoe Sprint World Championships. At the 2020 Summer Olympics she also won a gold medal in the K‑2 500 metres, with Caitlin Regal, and as an individual in the K‑1 500 metres. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Carrington defended her titles in the K‑1 500 metres and K‑2 500 metres event and also won the K‑4 500 metres event. Jon Schofield is a British canoeist. He partnered with Liam Heath in the men's kayak double 200m sprint event, and they have won a bronze in K-2 200 at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and a silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the same event. They have also won gold at the European Championships three times as well as silver and bronze medals at the World Championships.
