Joanna Manganara is a Greek diplomat,women's rights activist,from 2013 to 2020 she was the President of the International Alliance of Women (IAW,) which is the oldest still-existing international women's organization. [1] She was also its Chief Representative to the United Nations.[ citation needed ] She served as Minister-Counselor for human rights at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1980 to 2005.
She served as the IAW's Vice President for Europe from 2004 to 2013,and was elected President on 11 September 2013 at the IAW's triennial congress in London,making her the overseer of more than 50 affiliated organizations worldwide. [2] This position finished in 2020. She is also a member of the Executive Board of the European Women's Lobby,and a board member of the Greek Council for Refugees and the Hellenic National Committee for UNICEF. [3] [4] She is also President of the Movement of Citizens of Kolonaki,a town in her native Greece. This movement seeks to provide fair rights to its citizens,via the organization of protests outside of local politicians homes. [5]
She was a lecturer at Panteion University from 1970 to 1982. She holds an MA in sociology from the University of Kent,and a licence degree from the University of Geneva. She is also a graduate of Pierce College. [6]

The International Alliance of Women is an international non-governmental organization that works to promote women's rights and gender equality. It was historically the main international organization that campaigned for women's suffrage. IAW stands for an inclusive,intersectional and progressive liberal feminism on the basis of human rights and liberal democracy,and has a liberal internationalist outlook. IAW's principles state that all genders are "born equally free [and are] equally entitled to the free exercise of their individual rights and liberty," that "women's rights are human rights" and that "human rights are universal,indivisible and interrelated."
Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is an annual series of university lectures and rallies held in February or March. According to the organization,"the aim of IAW is to educate people about the nature of Israel as an apartheid system and to build Boycott,Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns as part of a growing global BDS movement." Since IAW began in Toronto in 2005,it has spread to at least 55 cities,including locations in Australia,Austria,Brazil,Botswana,Canada,France,Germany,India,Italy,Japan,Jordan,South Korea,Malaysia,Mexico,Norway,Palestine,South Africa,the United Kingdom,and the United States.
The Norwegian Association for Women's Rights is Norway's oldest and preeminent women's and girls' rights organization that works "to promote gender equality and all women's and girls' human rights through political and legal reform within the framework of liberal democracy." Founded in 1884,NKF is Norway's second oldest political organization after the Liberal Party. NKF stands for an inclusive,intersectional and progressive mainstream liberal feminism and has always been open to everyone regardless of gender. The IAW has associate and affiliated societies in 52 countries. She was elected President at the Congress in South Africa in 2010. She is a former president of the women's rights organization Vrouwenbelangen in the Netherlands. She has also been chair of the Appeals Commission for Personnel of the Ministry of Social Affairs in the Netherlands. She is married to diplomat Floor Kist. They have three children,Anne-Martijntje (1963),Florentius (1966) and Heleen (1970).
In the Netherlands,feminism began as part of the first-wave feminism movement during the 19th century. Later,the struggles of second-wave feminism in the Netherlands mirrored developments in the women's rights movement in other Western countries. The Norwegian Women's Lobby is a feminist policy and advocacy organization in Norway and works for "the human rights of girls and women in all their diversity,to eliminate all forms of discrimination against all girls and women and to promote a gender equal society." It is described as the country's "main,national,umbrella organization" for women's rights. NWL understands women's human rights and discrimination in an intersectional perspective and works to represent the interests of all those who identify as women and girls. NWL is funded by the government over the national budget. The mission of the organization is to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls on the basis of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women,the Beijing Platform for Action and other fundamental international agreements relating to women's human rights. It works to integrate women's perspectives into all political,economical and social processes.
