Joe DeLong is an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates,representing the 1st District from 2000 to 2008. He held the position of Majority Leader of the House of Delegates from 2006 to 2008. In 2008 he decided to forgo re-election to the House and ran an unsuccessful primary campaign for West Virginia Secretary of State. He was succeeded in the House by Republican Pat McGeehan. Joseph M. Minard was an American politician from West Virginia. He died on January 17,2022,at the age of 90.
Antonio James Manchin was a West Virginia Democratic politician who served as a member of the House of Delegates,as Secretary of State (1977–85),and as State Treasurer (1985–89). A colorful and controversial figure,he was the uncle of former West Virginia Governor and current U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III.
The 2010 United States Senate special election in West Virginia was held on November 2,2010. Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Robert Byrd died in office on June 28,2010. Democratic Governor Joe Manchin appointed Carte Goodwin to temporarily fill the vacancy. Goodwin pledged to not run for election to the seat in exchange for the appointment. This was the first open U.S. Senate seat in West Virginia since 1984 and the first in this seat since 1956. Manchin won the open seat and served out the remainder of Byrd's elected term,which ended on January 3,2013.
