John Daniel Couriel (born March 23,1978) [1] is a justice of the Supreme Court of Florida.
Couriel received a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College,and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge John D. Bates of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida,and was a partner at Kobre &Kim in Miami before being appointed to the bench. [1]
Couriel previously interviewed to become United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and to serve as a federal district judge for the Southern District of Florida. He unsuccessfully ran for the Florida Senate's 35th District in 2012 where he lost to incumbent Democrat Gwen Margolis 62-38%,and for the Florida House of Representatives' 114th District in 2016,this time narrowly losing to Democrat Daisy Baez 51-49%.
On May 26,2020,Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his appointment of Couriel to serve as a justice of the Supreme Court of Florida. [2] [3]

The Florida Republican Party also expanded its majority in the state legislature and won 20 out of Florida's 28 U.S. House seats.
Andrew Howard Warren is an American prosecutor and politician who served as the state attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida,covering Hillsborough County,from 2017 through 2025. In August 2022,Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspended Warren. On June 22,2023,the Florida State Supreme Court dismissed a suit filed by Warren challenging his dismissal. In Warren's federal lawsuit,the case remains pending at the district court level after a U.S. Court of Appeals remanded the case in early 2024. Warren was previously a federal prosecutor in the fraud division at the United States Department of Justice.
