John Allan Greene was an American politician,who served in the Arizona State Senate from 1991 to 1996. [1] A member of the Arizona Republican Party,he represented the 24th Senate District,and served as president of the senate from 1993 until the end of his term.
A native of New York,Greene was educated in law at St. John's University and New York University before launching his career in corporate and tax law. [1]
Following the end of his term in the state senate,he was appointed as head of the state insurance department in 1997 by Governor Fife Symington. [1] He was a candidate in the Republican primaries for the Arizona Attorney General election in 2002,losing to Andrew Thomas. [1] He subsequently announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Governor of Arizona in the 2006 Arizona gubernatorial election, [2] but withdrew from the race.
In 2011,he was appointed as director of the Arizona Department of Revenue by governor Jan Brewer, [3] holding that role until his death in 2013. [1]

The 1966 United States Senate elections were elections on November 8,1966,for the United States Senate which occurred midway through the second term of President Lyndon B. Johnson. The 33 seats of Class 2 were contested in regular elections. Special elections were also held to fill vacancies. With divisions in the Democratic base over the Vietnam War,and with the traditional mid-term advantage of the party not holding the presidency,the Republicans took three Democratic seats,thereby breaking Democrats' 2/3rds supermajority. Despite Republican gains,the balance remained overwhelmingly in favor of the Democrats,who retained a 64–36 majority. Democrats were further reduced to 63–37,following the death of Robert F. Kennedy in June 1968.

As of 2023,this was the last time either party has had a two-thirds majority in the Senate,which allowed the Senate Democrats to override a veto,propose constitutional amendments,or convict and expel certain officials without any votes from Senate Republicans. However,internal divisions would have prevented the Democrats from having done so. The Senate election cycle coincided with Democratic gains in the House in the same year.
John Fife Symington III is an American businessman and politician who served as the 19th governor of Arizona from 1991 until his resignation in 1997. A member of the Republican Party,he resigned from office following convictions on charges of extortion and bank fraud –convictions which were later overturned. Prior to entering politics,Symington served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale,Arizona.

The 1912–13 United States Senate elections were held on various dates in various states. They were the last U.S. Senate elections before the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment in 1913,establishing direct elections for all Senate seats. Senators had been primarily chosen by state legislatures. Senators were elected over a wide range of time throughout 1912 and 1913,and a seat may have been filled months late or remained vacant due to legislative deadlock. Some states elected their senators directly even before passage of Seventeenth Amendment. Oregon pioneered direct election and experimented with different measures over several years until it succeeded in 1907. The lieutenant governor of New Jersey is an elected constitutional officer in the executive branch of the state government of New Jersey in the United States. The lieutenant governor is the second highest-ranking official in the state government and is elected concurrently on a ticket with the governor for a four-year term.
